Has anyone ever gotten a real BG while refreshing the app more than a few clicks? I believe the answer is no but others out on the intrawebs seem to be saying it’s a good idea. I believe it’s not but I’m curious if we know of anyone who has started refreshing the app before 8 am and gotten a BG that way.
This was our process on 2/17, a day on which all BGs were gone in 3 minutes. Friends did the same the day before, when all BGs went in 1 minute.

Opened the app a few minutes before 8. Tapped the AT-AT and then tapped "My status". At 8 refreshed the "Boarding Status" page until the "Join a Boarding Group" button became active. I had to refresh twice (I remember because I freaked a little when the first time didn't work). Our friends refreshed two or three times (I know it was more than once). We got BG 39. Our friends the day before got 51. I may have refreshed it before 8 also, but I don't remember.

Arrived at the parking gate this morning at 6:49. Only 1 car in front of us. Bag check was fairly quick and lined up to the right. They were doing fingerprints. Lines started moving a little about 7:05, we were in at 7:13. MMRR line didn’t look too bad. We have a couple of nice ladies from Wisconsin with us in line for Star Tours. Just gave them a tutorial on using the app and getting a group. Hopefully we all have success. It’s definitely busy at the park but not as bad as I imagined. Data signal (AT&T) seems strong.

Been practicing for awhile now... but the last couple of days were difficult to get a BP.... today did the wait until my clock was at exactly 8am... then hit boarding pass and was able to "get through 3 different times before it turned to back up and then a few more times after that. So not too bad.... I was on data at home. At 8:07 still showing backups are available.

We recently got back from our Disney World trip and we were 2 for 2 on riding ROTR at HS. I thought I’d share my tips- I did a lot of research on different methods to securing a boarding pass before we arrived. I watched YouTube videos and read the boards to formulate a plan. Our plan worked without issue. I was really surprised to hear and see all the people who had no idea what to do or how to take advantage of certain things to increase your chances. A family we spoke to later in the day had no idea they needed to get to the park by opening- wow.

INFO AND TIPS
-We were a party of 3
-We all were linked on the app/accounts
-We walked through step by step our plan the night before and again at 7:30am once we were in the park.
-All 3 of us were trying for boarding group.
-Go SLOW! Take your time and don’t panic.
-Both times we had 1 person on WIFI and 2 on Cellular (Verizon)
-Both days park opened at 8am. Gates opened at 7am. We arrived at 6:45am and were in the park by 7:15am.
-We did not want to be around a lot of people to increase our connection speed. I ran speed tests on our phones consistently until 7:50 to ensure a fast connection.
-We immediately got into line for Tower of Terror when we entered the park. This line moved up to the main entrance but not into the Tower. It was perfect. Not a lot of people. We were right in front of the red wall both days at end of street. We walked right on to Tower of Terror at 8am both days!
-We closed all apps on our phones and restarted our phones at 7:45am.
-We did not open any apps upon restarting.
-7:55 we logged into Disney App to ensure we could connect.
-At 7:59:45 we clicked on FIND OUT MORE
-At 7:59:55 we slowly started cycling through MY STATUS and hitting the back button- each time looking for the JOIN BOARDING GROUP to be available on both screens. TAKE YOUR TIME.
-Have all members of your party continue trying to get a group even if one gets in. Only stop once it is confirmed.
- Screenshot the confirmation (Screen with droid) just in case!

DAY 1- Sunday Mar 1 (def more crowded than day 2)
-One member on WIFI was able to join group first. -Upon selecting members of the party he tapped the bottom of screen with his knuckle and it kicked him into a different section of the app. We went backwards but got an error message when adding our party- I assume he had kicked out of his virtual spot in line. We took screenshot of the error and tried to refresh (the refresh icon on the red errror message) but it did not go through.
-The other two in our party continued to try to get a group. One got in and we got group 72. (We would have had an earlier group without the mistake)
-We did not panic and we saved the error message on the first device in a screenshot so we could prove we had an error. Ultimately we did not need this.
-Our boarding group was called at 2:30pm and we had 2 hours to return.

DAY 2- Tuesday Mar 3
-We did everything exactly the same until 7:59:55. Two members of the party went to FIND OUT MORE and starting cycling through to MY STATUS and Back- looking on both screens for active button.
-1 member of our party clicked on FIND OUT MORE at 7:59:58. Upon the screen loading the JOIN BOARDING GROUP button was grey- but instantly at 8am in turned active. We were able to quickly secure group 8! We were the first in our area to get a group.
- We rode Tower of Terror and our boarding group was called while we were on the ride. We had 1 hour to return.
- The ride went down while we were on it and we were escorted backstage to exit. We were given a fast pass to return any time later when ride was back up.

In my opinion the biggest mistakes people make is:
1- all members of party can link their accounts and everyone try to get a boarding group (I helped several parties do this on Day 2). Do this!
2- You can cycle through the screens and I believe it helps refresh your app. DO NOT just sit on one screen and wait!
3- You have to take your time. Several people around us made mistakes both days including one member of our party on day 1.
4- Screenshot any errors once you are in the screen to add people to your party. you may be able to speak to a cast member and possibly receive a group or fast pass.
5- Test your connection speed to make sure its strong! If it’s not, find a better location.

Our spot in line for Tower of Terror was perfect. There was a small group (unlike entrance to Galaxys Edge) and we had incredibly fast cellular speed. It worked very well and we had the bonus of riding Tower of Terror right at park open.

ROTR is incredible and while we had some luck securing our boarding groups both days- I do believe our planning and strategy was key in getting on the ride!

good luck!

Sorry, I wasn’t clear. I don’t mean refresh once or twice I mean refreshing like you would for FPs, going back and forth repeatedly. I’ve seen that advice and people here have reported seeing people in the park doing it. I think it’s bad advice so I want to warn people off from it, but not if it does actually work.

8:10 from home still showed back up groups available from mine and my daughters practice attempts. Good Sign there.

Practiced this morning with the DH and DD19 (all stuck at home out of Coronavirus precautions). Waited until the clock struck 8, then counted "1, 2, go". DD19 and I got the red Join Boarding Group button, hubby had to go through My Status. We all made it to the "you are not all in the park" screen. Tomorrow I will try off the WiFi. Count down to Disney - 42 days!!!

Leave no stone unturned in the quest for a RotR BG. :joker:
I read a post on facebook yeterday where someone was doing the refresh and never got a boarding group at all. They never got the red button. So don't refresh just hard close and restart.

Trying Skyliner (solo & no bags while family sleeps in) experiment this morning from Jamaica.
Official opening is supposed to be 7:30. In line now.
7:25 already loading people FYI
7:27 on board and in the air
7:31 off Skyliner at HS
Through security 7:33
7:40 in park and ready to try for BG.

I walked with no bags to the central Skyliner station (closest to Jamaica) and arrived there at 7:18 this morning. In park 22 minutes later.

YMMV but it was easily possible this morning.

If you only have to traverse the one line of the Skyliner to get to DHS, there's every reason to believe you'll make it in time (barring a lengthy stoppage of the line, of course). The people who are truly cutting it close are those who have to go from Pop/AoA or from the Riviera line (although if I were staying at the Riviera I would totally just walk all the way to the hub and get on there). It's still a bit risky either way, but it's probably a chance I would take at least once if I had a long enough trip to get a second shot if it didn't work out.

Well, after reading this thread nearly every day since mid-December, it's finally our turn tomorrow to give it a go! We drove over 16 hours from Texas with 1 park, 1 day tickets for the primary purpose of riding RotR and visiting Galaxy's Edge. Our three sons (7, 9, and 13 years old) are huge Star Wars fans and very excited, but we've tried to help them understand there's a chance we won't be able to ride (but deep down I know I'll be pretty disappointed if I'm not able to get them on RotR). I must admit that after seeing how fast groups went the past couple days and how the ride performed, I'm feeling more nervous tonight than I was a few days ago. I've practiced quite a bit, and DW and DS13 have practiced a few days as well. I think we're as prepared as we could possibly be. We do at least have MFSR fastpasses and plan to rope drop Star Tours and ride it a couple times in a row while most others rope drop the headliners, so no matter what happens with boarding groups I'm hopeful my boys will have a good day and feel like they had a great Star Wars experience.

A big thank you to everyone who has taken the time to post their experiences here. All of the information has been massively helpful and as a result I'm confident that if we end up not being able to ride that it won't be due to any lack of effort or planning on our part. I'll report back when I have a chance tomorrow to let you all know what our experience was like. May the Force be with us!

so how did it turn out?

Any thoughts as to the differences in duration of BG availability between today and yesterday? Was yesterday emh and bigger crowds? Going back tomorrow and just wondering what to expect.

I wonder if we were attempting to ride it at the same time? We were BG16 last Tuesday and it went down while we were on it.
