So do you plan on attempting right at 8am, or are you going to chance waiting for a bit?
We have an ADR at Top at 10:45, so not a lot of leeway, and we'll need to rider swap. I am afraid I'll get caught up, tho, and end up clicking right away, and with my luck, it'll be a BG that boards at 10ish. 🤦‍♀️
I'm not brave enough to cancel and try again or wait any longer than suggested to try at all. lol We'll work with whatever we get. We're going to try for more than one ride, so once we get that first one in, we might get more brave.

Same. Our 1st attempt is Wed 3/18, my Bday, so I really want to ride. ☺ But we have Thurs and Fri too. I snagged an ADR for Friday at Top (not a great time tho), just incase we have to cancel Wed's.

The next step is critical and I cannot stress this enough ==>
I am dominant with my right leg but I clearly and purposefully shifted most of my weight to my left just prior to 8am

When my phone switched to 8:00, I immediately pressed "Find Out More", then "My Status" then was able to join a Boarding Group and was lucky enough to grab BG5
So...would you say...you Rebooted???

:rotfl2:

The benchmark I like to use (with 8 am openings) is about 60 by about noon-ish. Obviously any downtime affects that. 60 by noon gets us about 120 by 4 and about 145 by 7.

Less is ok, like yesterday, but that entails down time, which can mean difficulties for the end-user guest and trying to go through their day...and the wait time in queue during delays.

The early ones are hard to nail down, but by noon, we should have a good idea for the day as a whole. At least, that's my thought.

We will be there in three weeks and this thread has been super helpful!!! Thank you, everyone! I noticed in a few posts there were comments about staying to the right? Can anyone elaborate on this please? Is this when entering the park turn styles?

Also, with all of the crowds being in the park to get a BG, is it even possible to have a good RD experience for SDD, TOT, or RNRC? Seems like the waits for these rides will be crazy. With an 8a park opening, what time would you arrive?

Yes ...

I've figured 15 per hour to estimate the callback time with 0 delays, which jibes exactly with your times.

Yes, it's about the tapstyles. The right-most ones only have one Mickey head on each side, so go to the 3rd or 4th in from the right (I think that's far enough, someone can correct me if I'm wrong).

there's a construction wall on the far right between the tapstiles and bag check, if you line up to the right, after bag check, there are a set a of tapstiles that go faster because everyone lines up either in the middle or left
Unfortunately the Rise effect has caused rope drop advantage to be non existent. All the attractions have long wait times at opening, unless you are at the very front of the pack you will likely see wait times anywhere from 30 min to an hour

I am kind of confused and hoping someone can clear this up. How can BG be set to close in one minute AND at 61 groups? Wouldn't one of those need to be flexible?

I think it's 61 groups and that just happens before the first minute is up. But that's just my theory. I agree with you though, both cannot be true at the same time.

and don't forget rope dropping MMRR like we'll be trying to do during our second DHS day next week (F 3/6). Really lucked out in being bale to grab FP+ for SDD, TOT, MFSR, ST, TSMM over the course of our two days. There was still some late FP+ RNRC availability as of yesterday for our first DHS day (T 3/3).

we've seen these numbers over the last couple of weeks (without counting disaster week last week) they just close regular at 1min and start backups at 61. Those don't need to be flexible, the only flexible number is the total number of bg given all day, that will depend on previous day performance of the ride, if they had to give out recovery fps, overnight maintenance...
They seem to be confident that they can get 61 bg through the attraction each day, so that's the number that they are starting backups

But don't you think they're filling more than 61 groups in the first minute?? I sure do.

While we’re all entitled to our theories because of course no one really knows, I personally don’t think 1 minute is programmed. You can’t “fill all regular BGs” and also “have BGs programed to stay open for one minute” - the two concepts conflict if the regular BG count number is static (as it mostly is).

Both times I rode last week I got a backup group before Apple time ever clicked to 8:01, for whatever that is worth (not that Apple time is official time, just the only source I had at the moment).

I think they just fill quickly, usually in around a minute. There’s enough guest demand in the park at opening to consistently make that happen no matter the specifics of the regular BG count or other details.

Or alternatively, if it is a set time to keep the regular BG window open, then the number of guests in those BGs varies day to day.

I think 61 was getting hit in less than one minute during the busiest days last week. Like I said, this morning I was getting regular groups up until 8:01:14. So 61 goes a little over 1 minute when it is not as crowded.

Not as lucky today. BG82. I got in before brother at home. Can confirm that people were cheering while my clock read 7:59.

This poster (iZon) didn't specify what time they finally got their bg secured, but it sounds like they were at least trying right at 8. I would not say it is "not as crowded" today, especially based on photos posted on Twitter by Josh (easywdw) and the people from Touring Plans. Wait times have been pretty serious this morning as well. Maybe it isn't quite as bad as last week, but there are still more than enough folks to fill 80-100 bgs in the opening minute of the bg lottery - again, based on the post from iZon.

There is probably also a certain upper limit on connections per second that the BG reservation system can handle and maybe that plays a bigger role in the timing of reserving 61 BGs.
