Thanks to all for your help and resources in this thread! We had our first attempt and ride on RotR today.
Here’s our timeline:
6:07am Walked out the door of our room at Beach Club, walked to DHS
6:32am Through the no bag security line
6:38am Through the tap-stiles
6:43am Waiting on the Toy Story side of the rope drop crowd
7:00am Snagged boarding group 45 (Verizon iPhone 11)
[8:50am First BGs called]
12:12pm BG 45 called
12:43pm We check in for the queue
I think we waited 25 minutes but I forgot to look at the time after that.
More details - there were 3 of us trying for our group of 5. I was the one who had “practiced” and was the fastest finger today. When the clock clicked over to 7:00, my app wasn’t giving me the join button. I tried refreshing and backing out and back in a couple times. The group of girls next to us got group 25 before my button worked. Just then I was able to join, select our group, and gain a BG. All in less than 60 seconds.
One of our party had a service animal. You are able to crate the animal. It seemed like the CMs were a little confused about when/how. No spoilers - you take the animal through the queue and into the first attraction area. The CMs seemed to think the dog should be crated at a certain point but then we had to take the dog further than usual. My friend was walked through a maze kind of backstage of the attraction while the rest of us waited in an attraction room. She felt like it spoiled a bit of what was to come since she crated him in the exit area.
Someone in a post yesterday asked how the attraction wait times were if you didn’t arrive super early. As you can see from our times above, we were earlier than official opening time, but not by a ton. We were able to rope drop Slinky Dog with a 30 minute wait. While in line for SDD, I took a screenshot of the wait times in the park. At 7:08am, here were the waits:
RnR 30 minutes
ToT 30 minutes
SDD 60 minutes
Toy Story Mania 10 minutes
Alien Swirling Saucers 5 minutes
MFSR 90 minutes
Star Tours 5 minutes
Ten minutes later, those waits would all increase a bit as the back of the pack rope drop folks picked an attraction.
SWGE was not ridiculously crowded. The shops in the market area are quite tiny, so those felt tight, and there were certainly tons of people in the land, but it holds everyone well (at least at a midweek crowd level). I was pleasantly surprised we were able to grab breakfast and a table at Docking Bay 7 at 8:45am with no wait.
We have multiple days on this trip we could try for RotR but I’m not sure we will do the early morning craziness again. TBD.
