Read any good books lately?

Consent to Kill by Vince Flynn and Night Fall by Nelson DeMille and I just finished listening to The 5th Horseman by James Patterson.
I also agree that Lee Child writes a really good book :thumbsup2

For adventure and romance (with time travel kicked in!), give Diana Gabaldon a try. Outlander is the first book of hers you should read because her books go in order.

I love, love, love these books! My 63 year old mother and I went to a book signing just to meet Diana Gabaldon (and have our books signed). I highly recommend them! :)

Right now I'm struggling through The Game of Kings. This series of books is supposed to be better than Diana Gabaldon's set and happens to be where she got most of her ideas ;) , but it is a difficult series to get into. I'm not giving up yet!

I read Family History while at Disney last week. The overall tone was rather sad, but it was a good book and an easy read. I think I read at least half way through the book on the plane ride there.

Right now, I'm reading "Possible Futures" by Alice Hoffman, which is much better than I expected it to be.

Next on my list is "Lucia, Lucia"

Recently finished: "Shadow Baby" by Alison McGhee...nice book (was a Today Show pick) and "Girl in Hyaccinth Blue" (short stories about a Vermeer painting).

The Birth of Venus

What an incredible book. Many twists & turns in the plot. :thumbsup2

so many good books to chose from -- will have to lock those kiddos away to get thru them all!

Another favorite I've been recommending to everyone is "My Name is Asher Lev" by Chaim Potok and the sequel, "The Gift of Asher Lev". I love this book - it really captures an artist's struggle to be faithful to his heritage, his family, his faith, his community, and yet also be true to himself as an artist.

I love recommending books and getting recommendations from others - DH and I have thousands of books in our tiny (1200 sq. ft) house - there's at least one bookcase in every room, including the garage, and half of them are stacked two rows deep! We're trying to get rid of some, but at least half the time one of us says "I don't need this book anymore" or "I could give up this one", the other person says "Oh, don't get rid of that one - I haven't read it yet!" We'll never get rid of all these books...

Just finished reading "Carolina Isle" by Jude Devereaux......not the greatest but ok...

Jenny :)

"The Time Traveler's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger is just can't-put-it-down amazing. It's about a guy who has a disease that makes him time travel. Fantastic. One of the best I've ever read.

ITA!!! That was one I stayed up WAY too late several nights because I didn't want to stop.

I read these books (long ago) and enjoyed them. Thanks for reminding me of them--they are worth a re-read sometime.

Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom was really good. I also have been told that The Five People You Meet in Heaven by the same author was also really good.

Thanks for the recommendation for The Game of Kings. I just reserved it from the library. All the reviews on Amazon did say the first 100 pages were difficult to get through but well worth it. Thanks again--I'm a huge Diana Gabaldon fan and it'll be years before we get a new one again! I did go back and re-read the first 3 books--I've been reading them as they came out so it's been awhile. They were every bit as enjoyable the second time around. :teeth:

It is indeed by Marion Zimmer Bradley and it is one of my all-time favorite books! Love it!
From what I read of it, it is a good book. I started to read it last year and had to put it down, and when I went back to reading I got interested in something else. I do plan on getting back to it though.

Angels and Demons by Dan Brown.

The Kite Runner (can't remember the author).

The Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich.

I just finished the Kite Runner too! The author is Kahled Hosseni. I would highly, highly recommend this book. It is amazing.

Last night I finished the Bonesetter's Daughter, by Amy Tan. It was pretty good--I liked the second half more than the first.

For something light, I recently enjoyed A Trip to the Beach, by Melinda and Robert Blanchard. It is the true story of a couple who left everything behind to move to Anguilla and open a fine dining restaurant. Now, if I could just think of something to do that would let ME move to the Caribbean full time, things would be golden!

Subscribing for ideas...love to read, but do not spend enough time one it anymore...

"Mists of Avalon" is my all time, "if I were stranded on a desert island with just one book" book!!!!!!

really liked "Wicked", but can't get into the next one...any advice, should I keep going? Will I like the other books by Maquire? (edited to add: I just found the "question about "Wicked" thread and it pretty much answered that question!!!)

Right now I am just starting " The Witch of Cologne" ...so far seems very interesting, although I admit to not knowing much about the time period/subject matter...hope that is not a bad thing..will let you know....

I really enjoy Amy Tan's books. I think The Joy Luck Club is still my sentimental favorite - it was the first one of hers I've read - but I also like The Kitchen God's Wife and The Hundred Secret Senses. It's been awhile since I read Bonesetters Daughter, and now I want to go back and re-read it and see if I agree with your assessment! :goodvibes

i just started Self-Made Man by Norah Vincent

she lives 18 months of her life as a man to see what it is like to live in their world.
it has been given high reviews. i have two male friends who have read it also and found it to be very true, and actually appreciated the fact that she didn't male bash, as they were prepared for her to have done so.
