Rates for February

DD will be running in Princess Half Marathon in February.

Checked today for campsitea at FW.
DH and I had thought about spending the week of the race at the Fort and into the following week.

I can not believe how high the rates are for that time. $129-$149 for full to preferred sites.

Did I just wait too late to book?

Nope, that is the new going rates. Holiday weekends are somewhere around 200 a night.

Disney traditionally bumps the Fort Wilderness rates from the low Value period of January and early February (excluding holidays and special events) to the very high rates of spring break time around Valentine's Day and they stay there for about two months. The spring break rates are the highest, generally speaking, other than the holiday rates at the end of the year as Chris/PaHunter indicated. The Princess Run is the last weekend of February and although you and I might not think of that time of the year as "spring break", it is a wonderful weather time to camp at the Fort. So it's not a matter of waiting or booking early - prices are just very high that time of year.

The other thing not in your favor is there was a significant price increase year-over-year for 2017. I put together a thread earlier this summer looking at the 2017 rates, the price increases, and how those increases compared to the prior year.

Don't forget those pesky taxes too. That puts the Full or Preferred weekday or weekend rate range from $144 to 164.

As a struggling runner (headed for the Full Marathon at Disney in January 2017 and seriously undertrained here in September) I applaud you and DH for wanting to go and cheer your DD on. Coming across a familiar face in the later stages of a long run is a YUGE pick-me-up for the runner (trust me on that one). So whether you stay at the Fort or elsewhere (a Value) or offsite, please go since it means a lot to us runners. I've run with no familiar faces and it's okay but it sure does help to have even one.

2) The campground is getting VERY popular and people are paying almost any price.

1. No real surprise there.
   
2. With the increase in campground popularity.... it's surprising they have done more to expand it. I believe a GOOD suggestion was made to utilize space across from the (current) Entrance to the Fort to create some "Pull Through" sites. I am sure they would be in as much of a demand even though it would be across the street.

Yep, the rates are really that high. We were planning on going late February but changed to the beginning of the month to save about $350 on our trip. I just couldn't stomach rates higher than a value hotel.

We have done the end of Feb the last two years but this year with prices we considered the beginning of Feb. Alas things did not work out and looks like a September trip for us.

Spring break in March is $156 per. Ouch.
