Random WDW Info - I Never Knew!

When we went to AK last, my sister asked a CM why some of the Meer Cats stand on their hind legs and look around. He told he they were watching out for danger. He also told her that they're not the brightest crayon in the box, because they've been here four years and are yet to twig that there has never been and will never be any danger
That must be a scripted response, because I am certain that I heard the exact same thing from a CM myself.

Here's a tiny tidbit... Kinda OT, but not that known.
There's actually a movie about the Hollywood Tower of Terror.
Unlike Disney's Haunted Mansion, I don't think it did very well, because I don't know anyone else who has ever saw it. (But with this being the DIS forum, it might be common knowledge...:rotfl: ) You can look it up on ebay or anywhere online. Disney's Haunted Mansion was also not that big of a success as a movie. But it did have some AWESOME sound effects and visuals. Back when I used to install home theater on the side, I always recommended it for the effects and sound. "Dad... I see dead people"
I wouldn't recommend Disney's Hollywood Tower of Terror... it was corny. JMHO

Yep they sell the movie (Steve Guttenberg) RIGHT in the gift shop...

hey I liked the tower of terror movie. They usually show it several times on the Disney channel during Oct.

I'm pretty sure the movie was a made-for-tv movie made for the Sunday night show that used to be on a while back. It even stars Kirsten Dunst who went on to big big fame in the "Spiderman" flicks.

There's also a Country Bear Movie (!) starring Christopher Walken (!!!). By far the most successful of the Disney Rides that turned into Movies has been Pirates.

I haven't read all the posts, but this past spring visit I learned that all the animals you see on the Safari are put into buildings at night. They each have their own "call". This way, their health and diet can be regulated. I had no idea. I'm sure this is why the Safari stops every night, regardless of sunset time, at the same time. We were just there during the longest day of the year and the sign for "because of the early sunset..." was still there.

I happened to notice the buildings as we were taking the train to Conservation station and I asked a cm what they were for and why they had animal names on them.

I'm actually a little surprised that this is purposely shown while you are on the train. I've often wondered why the seats aren't facing forward and you just look at trees.

Also, anyone who has learned a "secret" on a tour is not supposed to reveal it here.:)

In the Imagineering Field Guide to DAK, it says the Imagineers want you to see the storage facility so you know how much hard work goes into keeping the animals happy and healthy. Also so the guests get a better appreciation of how much work goes on behind the scenes.

And regarding the Aladdin thing that is still being talked about all these years later, I've turned up my volume as high as it goes and Aladdin clearly is saying "good kitty, go away" or something to that extent.

From a very chatty (but awesome) bus driver:

WDW has it's own power station and water treatment plant. It can support every guest if every resort was filled to capacity PLUS all the staff needed to accommodate them-that's food, water, power, etc. for one month in the event of an emergency.

When the end comes-I goin' to WDW:thumbsup2

Here's one I don't think I've seen anywhere yet...Not WDW but DLR

When I worked as a CM at DL as a hostess in the Blue Bayou Rest. in Pirates, we were told that the hooting owls were actually signals to the CMs running the ride and monitoring it. They apparently signaled things like water levels and things like that. Does anyone know if they have the same sort of "hidden communication" is the WDW version or in other rides on WDW property??

My friend is a CM and I visited her last week. She told me lots of information, but....I won't be sharing it for a while, I want to tell it first on my TR. Sorry guys..

You made a post JUST to tell us you knew something that you will NOT tell us right now?

I do not understand the logic. :rotfl2:
------------------------------------------------------

I have come up with some interesting trivia while reading this thread.

Did you know:

82= the number of "subscribing" posts
117=the number of posts that said "keep it coming"
29-the number of posts asking for additional trivia

Now..view the number of posts made in the thread altogether, and realize that those of us, like myself, who read this in its entirety in one day, wasted a lot of eyeball energy on these posts. Why are people such goofballs sometimes? popcorn::

OK, this is kinda strange...

...so I'll explain the reason I ask first, so I won't get banned or labeled a pervert! My college roommate was our school's mascot for 2 years. I was very surprised that he wore a cup when performing. He told me you wouldn't believe the number of hits he took wearing that outfit! The worst are of course kids who do it unintentionally, but that there is a significant population of adults who get some sort of jolly trying to hit mascots below the belt!!:scared1:

So, do guys who dress as characters at WDW wear cups? I certainly think I would based on what my roommate experienced. I've even seen pics posted here that appeared to be characters taking a low blow.

This is not exactly the kind of thing you can ask a CM! Plus, I think cup-checking Goofy WOULD be reason for dismissal from the property!!!!
???

beer distributors and wholesalers classify their sales into 2 "divisions" on premise and off premise. on premise is where the product is boguht and consumed in the same location (bar) and off premise is where the product os bought and cosumed at another place (market/grocery store)

it is easy to see how rose and crown could be the #1 on premise sales location for guiness

now, for my additions. how true they are, I am not sure. they have been heard from CM's through the years

1-in animal kingdom they do fire drills for the animals every day. where the tigers are located, they are signalled by a bell and given treats when they enter the "cages"

2- something like 90+% of disney is under constant sureveillance. the only parts that aren't (including the undeveloped parts) are the guest rooms and bathrooms

3-the security/police/swat team at disney is world class. at any given time
there can be dozens (if not hundreds) of dignitaries from around the world in and around the parks

Here are mine...about Everest obviously.

1) Everest is the only rollercoaster in the world with a track that flips over.
2) Said trackswitches are each the length of a schoolbus
3) Everest is 199 feet tall because if it was 200 ft it would need a blinking light at the top.
4) The Yeti is Disney's largest animatronic and swings with the force of a 747 jet taking off.
5) Everest can run up to 5 trains at a time.
6) If something goes wrong with the ride, it shuts down automatically.

About the Dolphin hotel statues...

That most definitely is a dolphin on top of the Dolphin, but it's not a dolphin of the mammalian variety. It's a dolphin fish, otherwise known as a dorado or a mahimahi. :)

There is a dolphin FISH species as well as the better known MAMMAL dolphin.

Because it is the dolphin fish, not the mammal.

It is a dolphin FISH. I believe there is even a similar sculpture somewhere in the Italy pavilion. [...] Architect Michael Graves who designed the hotel elected the version of the dolphin seen at the resort for artistic purposes.

Okay... it is NOT a Dolphinfish (aka Mahi Mahi). Michael Graves, the architect for the Swan and Dolphin hotels, based the Dolphin's statues on the "Dolphin" statues by 17th century sculptor Bernini. Bernini's "dolphins" were classical representations from a time before people could photograph actual dolphins or had any great knowledge of taxonomy and the fact that dolphins were mammals rather than fish.

The dolphin statues in the Italy pavilion are based on the same classical representations.

So yes -- based on their physical features (scales, etc) they look like fish. But they're not called "dolphins" because they're supposed to represent a Mahi Mahi (Dolphinfish). They're called "dolphins" because they're based on Bernini's scientifically inaccurate classical representations of actual mammalian dolphins.

While I obviously can't speak as to all of them, I can say that at least one of Mickey's friends does not wear a cup or pelvic protector.

...you see, my then 4 year old sister decided to punch Mickey square in the family jewels. My mom saw it happening live...through the viewfinder of her camera.

They/we were not ejected from the park...and we've got a great blackmail picture for her wedding someday :)
