Random WDW Info - I Never Knew!

Yeah, and I've never even stayed at the BC. I just walk around it and get all Jed Clampet-ty feelin'!

Obviously a picture that's worth a thousand groans!

Hahahaha, man there is a joke there but I will refrain. Basically its just wordplay on the word groans :rotfl2:

Ok, I got through quite a few pages -but i figured I'd write something so later I could come back & find this thread!!!!!! Interesting info here...

Finally!! Ive just finished after 4 days!! I love this thread!! keep all those cool facts coming!! :dance3:  :woohoo: :yay:

I agree this thread is the coolest....makes me want to go back NOW!!!

:cool1: Great thread I guess I will have to get a trivia book before our next visit I don't think I will remember most of this stuff.:cool1:

Don't know if it has been posted, but I remember seeing a documentary (on the travel channel I think) about Disney. It said that Walt Disney had considered buying land in Louisiana to build Disney World, but for reasons I can't remember, decided to buy in Orlando and put Disney World there. A closer Disney would have been great for me. :)

I had also read where he considered the St Louis area so the park would be more centrally located.

WOW! I just finished reading through all 50 pages over the course of two days! Lot's of good stuff here, and I will definitely be on the lookout for some when I go in a couple of weeks, but I thought I would share one of my own that I have learned, and that I did not see on this thread.

The entrance to The Lands in Epcot is covered on both sides with hundreds of thousands of tiles (a CM told me it was one million, but I don't know about THAT). Both sides are the exact same down to the tile, with two exceptions. The two people who made this tile exhibit were a father/daughter team, and each worked on one side exclusively. Near the door, on each side there is a ruby tile, and in the same spot on the other side there is an emerald tile for the birthstones of the father and daughter. I thought this was REALLY neat myself.

Thanks, and I really enjoyed reading all of these!

This I just learned-WDW was going to be called Disney World. Disneyland's on one coast, Disneyworld on the other. But at the last minute, Roy decided to name it Walt Disney World as a tribute to his brother. So that's why the official name is WALT Disney World instead of just Disney World. And remember this if you're ever asked to play WDW Trivia at Sid Cahuenga's (the CM there told me this).

Dragging this one off page 1...I didn't see this followed up on in the first 10 or so pages, or the last couple...

As I understand it, the original planned name for the Florida Project was EPCOT - per Walt's Disneyland TV show, and even the grand opening special of EPCOT Center that featured Danny Kaye. The whole area was going to be called EPCOT - airport in the south, a planned community and commercial center (EPCOT Center) in the middle, and the theme park in the north, all connected via monorail. Peoplemovers would be used around EPCOT Center to bring people to the hub and back where the monorail station and hotels would be.

After Walt died, Roy changed the name to Walt Disney World. EPCOT Center was still built, but not according to that original plan, but what we know today. In the opening special, Kaye tries to explain that EPCOT and WDW were the same thing, and that EPCOT Center was at the center of EPCOT...

Well, it just so happens that Branson, Missouri is fairly close to St. Louis and someone with dummy corporation names, and offices in both Anaheim and Orlando has bought up large tracts of land right outside of Branson. Of course, the speculation around here is that there might be a centralized Disney park within the next ........ while. Here's hoping!

There is a company that no one has heard much of trying to build an 1,800 acre amusement park in Grayling, MI...and the name of the park.....Main Street USA...sound familiar?

This might already be posted but here we go

Kodak designed the paint color that is in MK. They said no matter what the weather and what you are wearing your pictures will look the best with this color.. That red color you see on the sidewalks!

Jungle Cruise....The ground has heaters underneath the plants to trick them into thinking they are in the tropics instead of FL with its sool/sol weather during the winter!

This is starting to become a rumor thread and not a fact/trivia thread anymore.

It's been that way from the start. Many of the so-called "facts" posted in the first 20 pages are actually rumors, urban myths, or flat-out falsities. But I never saw this thread at the beginning, and posting corrections to posts made three years ago seems pointless. :confused3

This kind of thread is still a lot of fun, despite the inaccuracies. :)

Those rumors have been going around for years, just various cities used each time. I remember as a kid everyone saying that one was going to be built in Grapevine, TX, and some "dummy" corporation was buying up land. That was 20+ years ago - there is nothing there.

Just rumors :goodvibes
