Random Annoyance about World Showcase

I'm confused about the rope thing. If I enter at FW, can I get to the bakery in France before 11? If I enter at the international gateway, can I get to FW before 11? It sounds like the ropes are blocking you from going through, but then I must not be understanding it right because what would be the advantage of staying at an EPCOT resort? Sorry to sound like a dingbat...

Yes. There is open access from FW to Canada on past IG and on up to France.

I'm not annoyed at all by WS not opening until 11am. What I don't get is why it doesn't stay open past 9pm, especially in the summer?!?!? Seems Disney is missing an opportunity to make some more dollars off people eating, drinking and shopping more.

I think world showcase is seen to the masses as a culinary experience from around the world. Its well known for food and drinks from all over the world.

at park opening most people have eaten breakfast they dont want to walking around the world showcase full, they want to leave it til 11:30 when your all looking for food drink and snacks. thats when disney makes the money.

To be honest its future world that annoys me. They say it is open until 9 but most of the attractions are closed at 7.

I LOVE that it opens at 11 am. As a West coaster it is hard to get to the parks at 7 am when it is 4 am back home in the summer. I always plan a WS day where we sleep in and eat breakfast somewhere before heading over to WS at 11 am. We usually do this towards the end of the trip when we are exhausted waking up at 6 am to hit the parks. Please don't change the opening time. There are tons of other things you can do before it opens.

I use one morning to get there at Rope Drop and get FW done plus Maelstrom and Gran Fiesta Tour. Lunch will be wherever I am when I get hungry (or Food and Wine booths if I am there then). I will also make this an early day, usually leaving at about 2pm. Then I will have at least one other day (depending when I am traveling, during Food and Wine I do 3-4 days total at Epcot) where I "sleep in" (as much as I do at Disney lol) and head over for the 11am for a day of shopping, exploring, and eating. This is when I will also stay for Illuminations.

I do not enjoy doing full days in the parks (open to close) so I normally split MK and Epcot.

This are both good points I hadn't considered before. Clearly I need to change my way of thinking for WDW. Does a bus or monorail stop at the WS entrance or do you have to walk through the other side if you are traveling from a non epcot resort?

No WDW transportation stops at the IG itself. You can take a bus to Boardwalk or BC/YC and walk from there--those are closest. No monorails other than Future World/front entrance.

If it doesn't open till 11 that's fine with me, really. But what I don't understand is why it's not open 2 hours later!! Clearly, WS is more focused on adults with the dining and alcoholic beverages and guess what? Not all of us are early birds. I'm a much happier, more enjoyable person after dark. I really wish WS stayed open later. Honestly, I wish that of all parks, but this one in particular makes more sense to be open later....

Back in the 80s and early 90s, WS was regularly open until 10. After Illuminations, almost all the guests left. Eventually, management decided the right business decision was simply to close at 9 for most days.

Am I the only one who divides WS and FW into two different days? WS is our sleep-in day! We've never been in the heat before, but I imagine we can pop into the pavilions to cool off.

(Not saying it wouldn't be cool to explore while everybody else is in FW, though)

We do it that way too. Usually FW in the am and hop to a different PM park. Then either sleep in and WS in PM; sometimes were hopping in from a different park, but Rare.

I understand the part that it's primarily seen as a food and drink area for adults so it doesn't need to be open earlier. But there is still other stuff in there, two rides, exhibits, movies, tons to do and see. And I believe parents with young kids would still like to see it in the mornings, as it's the best time to tour with young kids. Of course, it would be nice if they rotated some of the live entertainment into the mornings as well if it was open. Even if they opened it just a few mornings a week.

Then you're dealing with the very very hot weather that is in Florida for six months of the year...We're going this August, and I've basically crossed WS off my list. Most of our touring is going to have to be in the morning starting at rope drop, and then there is lunch and forget about it, we're back at the pool and napping.

And then they try to make it kid-appealing with Agent P and Kidcot and characters...but don't open it at the time that many parents would like to see it.

But it sounds like the answer is that opening it at the same time as FW wouldn't make them as much $$$ per hour, because people would be buying maybe a trinket and some snacks instead of drinks and overpriced dinners. So then it's just about selling stuff and that's not very magical. And why are we paying an admission fee for it? Just make it a mall and call it day.

P.S. I also agree it should be open later at night once in a while too!

Ok, here goes...Why does World Showcase open so late? I would love to see it in the morning before it's gets even hotter in the afternoon, especially since it is a heat trap. And because we want to do a bunch of kid stuff this time like Agent P and Kidcot.

For a park like Epcot that already is low on attractions, in a state like Florida where it is as hot as blazes, I can't understand the logic of closing half the park til 11 am. At least during the hottest part of the year.

Just wanted to see if this annoys anyone else or if there is something I am missing :)

I think when the customary 11am opening time was established FW was not so pitiful as it is now. Epcot would be well-served by opening up all its resources

Maybe if Disney put a headliner attraction somewhere in WS guests would be drawn to it and help to disperse the crowds in the front, alcohol or not.

When they still did the Around the World Segway tour, it made sense for it to be closed in the morning... it would be dangerous for others wandering on foot during the tours. The tours are sadly kaput now.

That's a really good point about FW. Anyway, exactly, why not use all of the attractions that are there (if you're not going to build new ones!)

Ah now we're talking! We could give old Soarin' a rest ;)
