Random Annoyance about World Showcase

Ok, here goes...Why does World Showcase open so late? I would love to see it in the morning before it's gets even hotter in the afternoon, especially since it is a heat trap. And because we want to do a bunch of kid stuff this time like Agent P and Kidcot.

For a park like Epcot that already is low on attractions, in a state like Florida where it is as hot as blazes, I can't understand the logic of closing half the park til 11 am. At least during the hottest part of the year.

Just wanted to see if this annoys anyone else or if there is something I am missing :)

Now that is a good question!

I don't really have an answer. I first thought, well it takes longer to get everything up and running. Obviously the answer to that is to start work earlier to get it open earlier. The I thought......Maybe they assume it takes a couple hours for guests to get through future world and o the showcase. But then I remembered they have a back entrance right into WS so that was out and I really can't think of another reason.

Alcohol sales maybe???

I think when World Showcase opened it was more about the Dining Experience and each country had its own stores.

With France now opened with a breakfast bakery along with Norway having a full service restaurant opened for breakfast maybe the times will change but I hardly doubt it.

I was thinking that too, maybe it's the alcohol. Although they could just not sell alcohol til later I guess, not sure how that works though. Even if the restaurants and bars didn't open til 11, it would nice if the rest of it did, including all of the places that sell those yummy sweet snacks.

I was thinking that about Future World too, but if anything it would help spread the crowds out. People could walk around, do Agent P, and go ride Malestrom and the Mexico ride, eat...eat....lol

I've always wished it opened earlier too so that we could tour it before it gets too hot.

Exactly! I was trying to write out some touring plans and I got so annoyed at that opening time! And all of the little "Streetmosphere" shows are in the afternoon as well, mostly between 1 and 5 or so. Which is not a good time in the August heat!

I cannot do Mission Space and Soarin' is usually our FP ride, so having WS open at 9 would be a dream come true.

Not every country has rides or movies, so all they have to do is open the shops or restaurants.

Can you imagine eating breakfast in France?

The people who enter from the International Gateway are primarily Epcot Resort guests. The majority of people enter from the front of Epcot, and I think that's the main reason for the later opening of World Showcase.

This. The focus in WS is on food so while some people would check it out, the majority would wait until lunch. Hence, 11am. The french bakery opens early because it makes sense to, they sell mostly the same food stock at breakfast (so they aren't creating a new menu) and it is near the back entrance which is a nice convenience for the deluxe resort guests. When they switched Akershus to being a princess experience, it just makes them too much money to eliminate a meal period so they opened for breakfast. Its all just cost and attendance analysis. The mouse always does his homework :) I don't know that alcohol is a big concern, just because in my family's experience disney is pretty open with mimosas and bloody marys in the AM!

If it helps, in May I had an early ADR for Akershus and there was no one around WS. We did not see any ropes and could have walked through past China. So you could probably walk around back there pre opening to some degree. The shops in Norway were open as well!

This might be a silly question, but when you say that WS opens at 11, that doesn't mean that it's gated off until then but just that none of the shops and areas are open or staffed? So, you can walk around the area and get a croissant in France but nothing else will be operational till 11, correct?

ETA: looks like my question was just answered.

Unfortunately,Guests cannot walk all of the way around World Showcase before 11:00 AM.:)

That must have been a rare oversight on someone's part to not have the rope up between Norway and China(the other rope is between france and Morocco).:)

Also, only the very front part of The Puffin's Roost is open in Norway before 11:00 AM(they open it because they sell Princess dresses there and some Guests will buy them and then head on over to the Princess brerakfast at Akershus).:)

Just speculation, but I would venture to guess that WS CM's are more expensive than the average CM. i.e. they are from their home country, thus, in addition to an hourly rate, there are housing costs, transportation costs, higher rate of turnover due to work visas. More hours would require more CM's, thus higher costs.

Again, just speculating, but that might be another reason for the shorter hours (think about it, 11-9 is a 10 hour shift--much longer and it would take two people to fill one role over the day).

My pet peeve is that WS should stay open later at night after Illuminations!

I know I read somewhere that back in the 80's when EPCOT had a theme, Future World opened before World Showcase because it is in the future. Silly I know, but I saw that somewhere.
