For those of you who have visited WDW in August , what would you think are the number of rainy days in a 10 day stretch ?

By rainy I mean heavy solid rain that extends for at least 30 minutes.A few sprinkles here and there would not qualify . OK ?

Thanks for participating !

Weve gone the same week in August for the last 2 years. Last year we only had the typical midday showers and they seemed to really work around our schedule(ie when we were in the room showering and getting ready to go out at night, or when we had just gotten undercover to meet Buzz...). However 2 years ago we had 1 midday downpour, one morning with a few hours of steady rain, and 3 evenings/nights of steady rain.

Our last trip was 8/14-8/24/03 and the only day it did not rain at all was 8/17. Of the 9 days it did rain, I would say 5 were the quick storm variety that happened in the afternoon but cleared up in 30-60 minutes so you could do the parks in the evening. But 4 of the days it rained steadily for hours in the afternoon and/or evening, including 8/18 when it absolutely deluged in the evening while we were at Epcot to the point that there was at least a foot of water in places, especially between Wonders of Life and Universe of Energy.

If you go in the summer months, ASSUME it will rain every afternoon and/or evening. This way, you are prepared with ponchos, umbrellas, change of shoes, plastic cover for stroller, towels to dry yourself or seats, plastic bag or container to keep money/camera/passes dry, etc. And also keep a flexible attitude and have fun -- a soggy evening in Epcot with your feet underwater is still better than a day at work!

We were there from 8/15-8/23. The 15,16, and 17 were terrific. Hot/humid but not unbearable. Then the 18th happened. Huge storm. Tornado spotted, monorail shut down...it poured from 3:00 until mid-evening. We finally left MK around 7 and it was still raining. Not lighty either. Then next 4 days it poured in the afternoon. Around 2:30-3:00 the skies would get dark and they would just open. Torrential. That Fri was our last night and an E-night to boot. But, we did it anyway, with our very used ponchos. At least it was warm...75 or so. From what I understand, the rain that August was quite unusual. Usually it will rain for an hour or so each afternoon and then stop. I could have lived with that. But, all this said....we are still going back during the same time frame this year!!!

Was there from July 28- August 15th 2003 and it rained almost every day. In August it rained for hours every day. Ponchos and all we were drenched

You just never can tell. We were there the first two weeks of August in 2002. It barely rained at all the first week, and rained every day the second. Sometimes it had rained in one park, but not at another. Take the ponchos everywhere! The rains come on suddenly.

We were there from Aug 2nd to 12th 2003. We had rain 8 out of the 10 days, sometimes lasting 3 hours or more of torrential rain. But they did say that it was a very rainy summer!

We were there in the 1st 2 weeks of August last year and had rain on maybe half the days. One day was a constant drizzle that kept the ponchos on all day long. One day was a deluge that came out of nowhere and soaked for about 2-3 hours. After those two days, there were the usual summer showers in Florida

You can expect showers just about every afternoon. My suggestion is, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM!

Lines tend to be shorter when it rains, since people scramble for cover. We always carry cheap disposable raincoats from home. Dollar General has them for under a $1 each.

If we are back at the hotel, and it is a light rain, we sit on the balcony of our room and wait it out. Or, if we are at the pool and there is no lightening, we just stay in the pool. Heck, you're wet already! :rotfl:

Me and Goofy4Tink must have waddled around together that week at WDW. We were there last year Aug 16-23 and it was WET! Several times when we were back in the room in the afternoon we weren't able to go swimming for as long as we wanted because of the storms. We even spent one morning/mid-day at the hotel to get in some extra swim time for the kids. And the eride night on Friday was ..... interesting! Oh yes...and the tornado spotted earlier in the week. I think however that wasn't typical August weather but be prepared for at least some very rainy moments if not hours during your trip! We still had a wonderful time. I have 2 little kids (were 20 months old and 5 yrs old back then) and we didn't have any major problems with them and the rain. I had 2 great stroller covers that were well worth the money. I highly recommend coming prepared with those if you're using a stroller. (Younger DS was using stroller as a wheelchair so we had to make sure it was kept dry and comfortable for him).

Have fun!
