RAin! Rain! RAin!

We were at WDW from May 13th to the 17th. Like you, I checked the forcast and even printed it out showing thunderstorms every single day of our trip. Guess what? It sprinkled on us twice the entire time. We actually had the best weather we can remember in some 25 visits. Hope it works out like that for you!

I'll just add to the folks who suggest that you don't pay any attention to these sort of forecasts. They are hardly more than guesswork with an accuracy chance of 50%. You can do just as well flipping a coin.
I'd just plan on good weather, and if it does rain at all, most likely it will be those "hit or miss" thunderstorm sort of events.

Note: Our local forecasters are fond of the "hit or miss" predictions. If the storms "hit", they claim they were right on the money. If they miss, they again claim they were right on the money. Can't lose!!

Eljojo--I would still bring ponchos--it's so humid that some stuff doesn't dry that fast even if it's hot. And if you happen to go into air conditioning without being dry you'll freeze! I don't remember being hot under the ponchos, it seems to cool off a little when it rains. We were there last August. It is kind of a pain to carry them around, so this year we're taking the suggestion of other DIS'ers and buying some from the dollar store that are packaged so small.

We went last August, and it rained every day of the trip. There was a tropical storm a couple of days that meant rain all day.

And we had a fabulous time. My attitude---rain or sun, you're in DISNEY! How can you have a bad time? A rainy day at WDW is better than a sunny day back home.

We bought the dollar ponchos, and each of us kept one folded up in our fanny pack. They worked like a charm---used the same ones all week. One of the kid's ripped theirs a bit, but that was from carelessness. And they didn't make us too hot.

I agree with the sneaker suggestions---that was our one problem. We came back to the room with soaking wet sneakers and didn't want to put them back on. Bring lots of socks too!

We even went to Blizzard Beach during a tropical storm. We figured we were there to get wet anyway!

The only trouble was with the parades---we really had a goal to see all of them, but that was the time of day that it always rained. So, if parades are a priority for you, be flexible enough with your schedule so you can hit them on the sunny days!

OH! And my absolultely FAVORITE picture from our last trip is of DD skipping in the rain on the way out of MK.

Here's the pic, if the link works. Have you ever seen a happier kid? Skipping in the rain

If you go in the summer, it is going to rain- as the other nice folks on this board have been saying. I plan on at least a brief storm most every afternoon I have to be in a park. If it doesn't rain a few of the days I am there I consider it a bonus :) You will probably have some days free of rain, just check the weather channel in the AM. There are a few times during the summer where it won't rain a for several days in a row (at least that is how it was when I lived there). I always hope my trip will fall during one of those times. I would never go in July or August, as when I lived there these were the two rainiest (and hottest) months of the summer. We go in June (leaving in 9 days- woohoo) when we visit in the summer. If 'rainy season' patterns have changed, hopefully a current resident can set me straight.

I carry a pair of Tevas (athletic shoe type sandals) in my backpack and take my sneakers and socks off when the storm hits and put the sandals on. The little bit of extra weight in the backpack is worth having dry shoes during the trip. If it looks like it is going to rain all day, I wear the Tevas all day that day with a pair of socks. Take a couple of towels for the group, and a smaller one to sweep the rain off seats. We use the towels after Spash and Kali on sunny days, too.

I pack 2 ponchos per person in case they rip. If they aren't needed, I keep them with my 'Disney stuff' for the next trip. Many days of our trip we get started at park opening and plan a swim and a nap in the middle of the afternoon, as that is when it normally rains (plus that is when it is the hottest). Those days I usually don't take the sandals with us, unless it is an AK or MK day- we always put them on before we ride Splash and Kali (as well as the ponchos on Kali)

This is an early post before the coffee kicks in- so hopefully it makes sense and is helpful :)

Blessings,

Great picture Michygoomy! I love the positive attitudes of those responding to this post! ::yes::

Yesterday morning & the night before then, when I checked ...there was no rain forcasted...now there is.... OK.. I thing they are playing games with us... It is going to be June... and in June our usual forcast is...humid hot with a high of the mid 90's and a low of the mid 70's....chance of rain EVERY DAY! Our forcast never changes...unless there is a hurricane brewing near us... so... anyone going...bring your poncho's and running shoes :hyper: Stay clear of lightning and have a geat time here in sunny FLA :sunny:
