Raglan Road Question

I have read a few good reviews about this restaurant. Just wondering if it is worth leaving a park, traveling there, eating, then going back to the park.....or is there something that equals that experience and food located in a park somewhere?
We have never eaten at any of the restaurants outside of the parks.
If it is worth it, how long should be allowed to get there and back?
Thanks!

Is it worth it to go there just to eat at RR...in my opinion, no. But, is it worth it to go over to DTD and then eat there because you happen to be at DTD...yes. The food is good, but we had such terrible service last December that I don't think we'll be back for awhile. Unfortunately, I haven't eaten at enough restaurants to recommend something similiar. They do serve fish-n-chips, and they were about the same as the ones in England (Epcot).

If you have a car, it's not that difficult to get there and back. If you do not have a car, because there is no direct transportation between any WDW theme park and Downtown Disney, you have to use a resort as a transfer point. Depending on the park and how close the resort you transfer at is to the park, it may take a long time to get there and back. If you are going to Epcot or MK, you can use a resort within walking distance of the park and you need to ride only one bus.

OMG it's worth it for the bread and butter pudding alone!!

I would say plan it for a night where you have a little time to explore DTD :)

It's worth it to me! Their "It's Not Bleedin' Chowder" is heavenly and they have the BEST beer on property, gotta love that!:cool1:

If you are in a park, to me it doesn't make sense to leave to go to DTD to eat and then return to the park. I'd suggest getting something either at the park or at a near-by resort (depending on the park).

As far as RR goes, you've seen some good reviews. We've been there a couple of times and haven't really cared for it. Not dislike, just more like "well that was OK but I don't see the big fuss" kind of reaction. Frankly we liked the food at Rose & Crown better than RR.

We love Raglan Road and we eat there every trip. But I would not leave a park to travel to DTD if I wanted to return to a park that same evening. Way too much time and travel for me. I would estimate that it would take about an hour each way plus at least 90 minutes to enjoy your dinner so you are looking at 3-3 1/2 hours.
I would plan Raglan Road for a day when you can stay and explore DTD.
Have a Great Trip

It is SO easy to leave any park or any resort to hit DTD and head back to any resort or any park!

It is DEFINITELY worth it to check out Raglan Road - one of the best meals in our entire Disney experience! "It's Not Bleedin' Chowder" was AWESOME, tender mussels and delicious broth, the ham dish was amazing too, and the bread pudding! OH MY GOODNESS!

Needless to say, I'm heading back to RR next trip! The live music was very fun, lots of "participating" guests (!) and the Irish dancer was terrific!

We stayed at ASSp and we didn't have a problem - our first night we got in about 5:30, headed to DTD to shop and then over to our ressies at 9:30, home by 11! DH and I had a blast, and we don't even drink! :thumbsup2

We had a great time at RR, and the food was very good. We had the fish & chips, drunk chicken app, & a bowl of potato soup. We made a very late (for us, anyway) reservation so we could see the band. They started at 9:00. Great band & entertaining dancer. Too late to go back to a park if you want to see the band, unless it's a park with very late evening EMH!

We love Raglan Road and even had our rehearsal dinner there. I love the Dalkey Duo and the bread pudding. We are eating there again in Feb and I can't wait. I agree though that it would be best if you were going to explore downtown Disney a little though as well. It will take a decent amount of time to leave the park and return!

It was one of my favorite meals last Sept. Way better than Le Cellier (which I usually love). As someone else posted, the bread pudding alone makes it worth it. I'm going on a short trip with DH in Feb., and RR and Boma are the only two restaurants we feel are must do's.

Thank you for all of the responses! So.....there is a band/performance that starts at 9:00 pm??

BTW, I LOVE bread pudding. It is my favorite dessert food. From the sounds of things I need to go just to try that! Yum.

It's not your average bread pudding either. It's a sublime experience! The Dalkey Duo, the Chowder, the bangers and mash and the Salmon are incredible. The fish and chips are just so-so. The food is well worth it, but sometimes the service can be a bit spotty. We had one waiter named David who was the absolute best, and two there who were below McDonalds bad.

I'm not a big fan of eating where you aren't. Very very few of the Disney restaurants are worth a special trip just to eat there. If you're taking the evening off, or spending it in DTD, sure. Raglan Road is pretty good. But, leave just to eat? I'd rather eat in a resort closer to the park I am in, or the park itself.

We would never recommend Raglan Road to ANYONE regardless of their having a car or not. We had a very bad experience there two years ago. It was so bad that we will never return. The hosting staff was deplorable and the food mediocre. Save your time and go to a better restaurant in the parks or at a resort.

Love RR!! Have been each time we stay at POFQ. We enjoy the boat ride to DTD. I don't think I would make a special trip from a park though.

My DH and I are planning on RR during our trip in March. We were wondering however if there is a set time or day they have live music, or is it just special occasions/once in a while? Also my husband was wondering if anyone has a current list of beers on tap. Thanks.

I believe the entertainment starts at 9:00 each evening. Raglan Road does have a website, so you can google that.

As for what is on tap:
Smithwicks (one of my favorites, great on tap, but still not the same as it was in Ireland)
Guiness (of course)
Stella Artois
Boddington's
Harp
Crossbow Cider
And there might be a couple more.

When there please take a look at the bars, they were handcrafted in Ireland. Beautiful pieces of art.
