Racist,ignorant, or misunderstood? O'Reilly remarks

All of the above....

Anyone watch Keith Olberman and the his slams on O'Reilly.:rotfl2:

He is frequently the "worst person in the world"....:lmao:

Misunderstood. Read the transcript with Juan Williams. O'Rielly was trying to communicate how he was impressed with the Real African American Culture rather what is portrayed by Rappers. Al Sharpton will be on Tomorrow and I am sure this will be discussed. Why not tune in, or would you rather have media matters do your thinking for you.

I don't think I can call him a racist based on those remarks alone. I can call him ignorant though. He obviously needs to get out more.

Although there are some politics that I agree with him on, I don't usually watch him b/c he comes off as a know it all. That's a personality trait that's irritating to me.

Media Matters doesn't do my thinking for me.

On the other hand, they do present unedited transcripts of whatever point is brought up and allow readers to draw their own conclusions. On that site they have literally hundreds of factually incorrect remarks uttered by O'Reilly on the public airways (and they always use the actual video or audio footage itself to insure that there is nothing taken out of context) and then more often than not provide a verifiable link to where O'Reilly's words are proven incorrect.

I find it interesting that there are some who cannot rebut the literally hundreds of documented fallacies uttered by O'Reilly but still continue to think of him as credible. That alone speaks volumes about his audience.

For instance, here's the transcript of O'Reilly's remarks, taken directly from his radio broadcast and other places he spoke on the subject;

During the September 19 edition of his nationally syndicated radio program, discussing his recent trip to have dinner with Rev. Al Sharpton at Sylvia's, a famous restaurant in Harlem, Bill O'Reilly reported that he "had a great time, and all the people up there are tremendously respectful," adding: "I couldn't get over the fact that there was no difference between Sylvia's restaurant and any other restaurant in New York City. I mean, it was exactly the same, even though it's run by blacks, primarily black patronship." Later, during a discussion with National Public Radio senior correspondent and Fox News contributor Juan Williams about the effect of rap on culture, O'Reilly asserted: "There wasn't one person in Sylvia's who was screaming, 'M-Fer, I want more iced tea.' You know, I mean, everybody was -- it was like going into an Italian restaurant in an all-white suburb in the sense of people were sitting there, and they were ordering and having fun. And there wasn't any kind of craziness at all." O'Reilly also stated: "I think black Americans are starting to think more and more for themselves. They're getting away from the Sharptons and the [Rev. Jesse] Jacksons and the people trying to lead them into a race-based culture. They're just trying to figure it out. 'Look, I can make it. If I work hard and get educated, I can make it."

If you want to hear his own words, unedited, for yourself, you can at

and once there, play the audio clip on the top right of the page.

I like him, but I dont always agree with what he says.

I think we are all guilty of sticking our foot in our mouth, he is no exception.

I like him.

As do I.

What do you think of his comments?

I dont think - I KNOW theyre being taken out of context.

The "usuals" will be along to defend him. The man is one sorry excuse. :sad2:

Call me a 'usual'. :thumbsup2

Thank you.

It SLAYS me that I will see news articles posted on these very boards, with comments and opinions, then no kidding - I tune into Bill that night, and Ill be darned....same articles / news WITH (I know youre NEVER going to believe this one!) Bill actually will have the SAME comments and opinions being stated on these boards.

His point / opinion is that RAP music isnt the best example of what African-American Culture is like. Nor should it be - and MANY blacks who come on his show, MANY *including* Rev Al Sharpton, agree.

Well, he must like the taste, because he does it so often.

O'Reilly is a complete and total *******. Fox and the right deserve him.

::yes:: As does saying he is taken out of context or misunderstood.

Read ALL of it - not a snippet AND watch his show. :thumbsup2

You'll  it!!! :goodvibes

I have watched his show.

A number of times, in fact.

In the same way that people do Sudoku or crossword puzzles for mental exercise, watching his show during long plane flights helps keep me mentally sharp by watching to spot the contradictions in logic and factually incorrect statements.

So you've at least got that going for your viewership plea......

So you've at least got that going for your viewership plea......

No plea-ing going on here. His ratings speak for themselves.

AND like I mentioned - I will see post after post of news articles with opinions and disgust and anger about said issue, and every night it happens. I tune in, he will be discussing the SAME issue and will state the SAME opinion the majority will state HERE.

So, I still dont get this anti-Bill movement.

With no disrespect, you (like many others) don't get it because you don't understand the differentiation between opinions and facts.

It's that simple.

I would like further clarification on the Term " It Speaks Volumes of his Auidience"
