Racist,ignorant, or misunderstood? O'Reilly remarks

No plea-ing going on here. His ratings speak for themselves.

AND like I mentioned - I will see post after post of news articles with opinions and disgust and anger about said issue, and every night it happens. I tune in, he will be discussing the SAME issue and will state the SAME opinion the majority will state HERE.

So, I still dont get this anti-Bill movement.

You dont see anything wrong with him because you dont see anything wrong in those comments. Alot of people here and in the country dont see anything wrong with it.

The only thing that is "diffrent" about black and white reastaurant owners is the diffrent kinds of foods they may make and the color of their skin. This snipit sounds to me like he was expecting some kind of free for all rap party when he went into the establishment and that is just plain wrong. Hes sterotyping in the worse way.

And I dont expect you to see anything wrong with it.

:lmao:

He wasnt sterotyping - his entire point is that blacks DONT act like RAP "artists" and the pedastal some rap artists are put on, for acting and talking like 'hoodlums' is unacceptable. He talks about this all the time. Which again, is a post I HAVE seen here on the DIS. About RAP music 'going too far' and everyone, their cousins, and their neighbors will agree.

But Bill better not say it - racist pig.

What are you talking about??? Unfortunately your post doesnt make much sense the way you typed it out.

Whatever - you just keep ripping on me, though. :lmao:

I would like further clarification on the Term " It Speaks Volumes of his Auidience"

Certainly.

Here are (at present count) 852 documented lies and contradictions by O'Reilly through his media outlets.

http://mediamatters.org/issues_topics/search_results?qstring=bill+o'reilly

Each one has Bill's exact quote, and a verifiable cite proving something other than what Bill has said. Here's the most recent one as of this writing;

O'Reilly once again falsely claims "never" to call for boycotts, "except for France"
Summary: Bill O'Reilly told a listener: "I didn't call for any boycott. I never do that, except for France, and that's lifted." It was not the first time that O'Reilly falsely claimed that he "never" calls for boycotts. As Media Matters for America has documented, O'Reilly has previously denied calling for boycotts, but has in fact called for them on several occasions.
During the September 19 edition of his nationally syndicated radio program, Fox News host Bill O'Reilly told a listener with whom he was discussing what he said are the negative effects of rap on our culture: "I'm going to go after anybody who rewards bad behavior. ... I didn't call for any boycott. I never do that, except for France, and that's lifted." The broadcast was not the first in which O'Reilly has falsely claimed that he "never" calls for boycotts. As Media Matters for America has documented, although O'Reilly has previously denied calling for boycotts, he has in fact called for them on several occasions against a number of entities with which he has found fault. For example:

On the June 20, 2006, broadcast of his radio show, O'Reilly declared that he would "name the names" of organizations that he claimed are "helping the enemy," and then told his listeners: "t's up to you guys to take action against them in a sense of boycotting their products, letting them know that this is unacceptable." Later in the program, O'Reilly revealed the groups he believes are "helping the enemy" -- a list that included the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the International Red Cross, the BBC, Air America Radio, and The New York Times.
On the August 27, 2002, edition of Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor, O'Reilly attacked PepsiCo for offering rapper Chris "Ludacris" Bridges an endorsement deal. O'Reilly called for "responsible Americans to fight back and punish Pepsi for using a man who degrades women, who encourages substance abuse, and does all the things that hurt particularly the poor in our society." O'Reilly continued: "I'm calling for all Americans to say, Hey, Pepsi, I'm not drinking your stuff. You want to hang around with Ludacris, you do that, I'm not hanging around with you." On The O'Reilly Factor the very next day, O'Reilly took credit for Pepsi's decision to cancel the Ludacris ad campaign, saying, "But because of pressure by Factor viewers, Pepsi-Cola late today capitulated. Ludacris has been fired." However, on February 4, 2003, O'Reilly reversed course, claiming he never advocated a boycott: "I never do anything tacitly. I do things directly. I simply said I wasn't going to drink Pepsi while that guy [Ludacris] was on their payroll. No boycott was ever mentioned by me."
From the September 19 edition of Westwood One's The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly:

O'REILLY: John, Indianapolis. What say you, John?

CALLER: I think your spinning and bloviating does not do the black community justice. You're just giving fodder to your viewers who have a negative view of black people anyway, so your pointing out a couple of Twistas and Ludacrises in the large general population is shameful. I think you're ruining people's opportunity to make income, and I wish black America would wake up and start boycotting these companies that you convince to boycott artists. Who are you gonna go after next?

O'REILLY: I'm going to go after anybody who rewards bad behavior, and just because you condone bad behavior is not going to stop me. What I think I'm doing is calling these people out who are injuring other Americans, and if corporate America is going to reward those people, then I'm going to bring it to everybody's attention. And -- I didn't call for any boycott. I never do that, except for France, and that's lifted. I just bring it to people's attention. Here's what they're doing. They make the call. You don't like what I'm doing, OK, fine. I think I'm doing the right thing. I think you're justifying bad behavior. I think you have your head in the sand.

We'll be back.

Now, if you can't refute that or the other mistruths that come out of his mouth, why do you so readily assign credibility to someone who lies as much as he does?

That is what speaks volumes about his audience.

Not "ripping" on you trying to explain to you why his comments are offending people and why they may not care for him. It makes perfect sence. Just not a sence you are use to.

Exactly. It's like he's telling everyone that black people are people too, as if he's come to some sort of revelation and he's decided to enlighten us.
Hey Bill, the world isn't flat, either.

That's the way I, and most others, took it. If he was indeed "misunderstood" he certainly hasn't explained it satisfactorily, imho.

Again!

Im well aware of why people dont care for him. He's opinonated and isnt wishy-washy when it comes to his opinion. And whether I agree with him on certain issues or not - its a trait I *do* admire.

So, what dont I 'get' now? :lmao: :listen:

I put more creedance in what Juan Williams just said on The Factor than most of the "intolerant" pseudo intellectuals on this thread.

So reguardless of his opinions, the fact that hes soooo opinionated is what you like about him, as racist or backwards as they are hes not afraid to express them. And you admire that.

You have a good night.

Ok you too! Sorry you feel like I was pickin on you just trying to understand your point of view cause I certainly dont think your a bad person , I just honestly dont understand defending his ignorant point of view. I understand liking the person that tells it like it is, just not what hes telling. And honestly I dont think HE thinks hes saying anything wrong either.

Honestly have a good night, I saw your tat on another thread of the mickey head, its cool.

He also doesn't let anyone else talk if their opinion differs with his. I respect hosts who allow their guests to fully explain their views. If I had to choose one host from that side of the aisle, he should take a page out of Glenn Beck's playbook. He's respectful of his guests.

Not all black people are gangsta rappers?

Wow. I'm stunned. Thank goodness for Bill to set me straight.

;)

I don't think I can call him a racist based on those remarks alone. I can call him ignorant though. He obviously needs to get out more.

I agree. I live in an fairly integrated suburb that is just west of an predominately black area on the south side of Chicago. When I give directions to my house to people who live on the north side occasionally I get some really dumb questions. Like, "is it safe?" Um, yes. I wouldn't ask you to drive someplace that isn't safe. People are going to work, walking their kids to school, shopping, cutting their lawns, picking up dinner... you know, the usual stuff. This particular ignorance is fed by the fact that there are some very dangerous neighborhoods on the south side, but this isn't one of them. It also has a lot to do with north side bias which has nothing to do with race!!!

As for O'Reilly - he is a windbag who loves to hear himself talk.

I don't watch his show, and I don't know what kind of person HE is, but his comments sound a little bit like some of the comments that have came out of the mouths of some family members, so, I KINDA feel like I know where he is coming from...sorta...except for the fact that if he is so famous, I would expect him to be more educated about such things...but anyways.....this is going to be REALLY hard to explain, and I know that people are just going to jump all over me, but you have to trust me that I am one of the least racist people ever.....

Places like Harlem, and New Orleans, and Compton, etc. have pretty bad reputations. It is common knowledge that a white person cannot just go out for walk in the middle of these neighborhoods. Is that a stereotype? Yep. But it doesn't make it any less true. Are there good people in those neighborhoods? You betcha. But, it still doesn't detract from the statistics. There are places where ambulances WILL NOT ENTER w/o a police escort. It's not b/c they are scared of black people, just b/c they are black. It's b/c there is a known history of violence there and past occurences tell them that it is not safe. My family grew up in New Orleans, they stay far away from the prominently black parks, stores, restaurants, you name it. It's not b/c they hate blacks, or b/c they are racist, it's b/c they have shopped/dined/visited those places and always have bad experiences. These places are almost always trashed and they usually get looked at, cursed at, hit on, or anything else you can think of. It's a totally different world when they visit us in Maryland. :confused3 It seriously is culture shock. One of my favorite parks is in Prince George's county, which has the most affluent blacks in the country, and it is BEAUTIFUL. We took them there, and they seriously could not believe it was still standing, AND there was landscaping. It has completely opened their eyes to how prejudiced they were when they come here and see that not all black people are thugs, they don't all curse at white people. As a matter of fact, after visiting a few times, they finally realized that they can't base their feelings toward a whole race of people just b/c they see more of the bad side.
So, MAYBE this is where he was coming from. It doesn't really make sense, cause I doubt he has spent much time in places that my aunts have. :confused3 I dunno, but it doesn't sound like he is being racist. I think people pull that card way too much. I think that people should take the time to understand where a person is coming from before they start making assumptions.

Misunderstood. Read the transcript with Juan Williams. O'Rielly was trying to communicate how he was impressed with the Real African American Culture rather what is portrayed by Rappers. Al Sharpton will be on Tomorrow and I am sure this will be discussed. Why not tune in, or would you rather have media matters do your thinking for you.

Translation: if anyone thinks that all AA culture is based on rappers it's a prejudgment .... or a prejudice.

I find that insulting.

And I grew up with Juan Williams... We lived in the same building and I LOVED sharing an elevator with him! :sigh:
