Racism or just enforcing rules?

Were they keeping up with the group ahead of them? The article doesn’t say one way or the other. Are groups of 5 permitted now? I always thought the limit was 4.

I know nothing of golf clubs, but answer two questions for me.

1) Is it customary for the owners/managers to offer to refund the cost of the membership for playing a game too slow?

2) Is it customary to call the police, especially when the police confirmed their presence was unnecessary?

I am a golfer, and to me, this sounds like a golf course enforcing the rules that slower golfers either speed up, or allow players behind to play through. Since this hit the media, suppliers to the golf course have stopped doing business with them. This is getting crazy.

LOTS of info missing here. I feel like there are a few missing pieces between the owner thinking they were taking too long to play and them cancelling their membership and calling the police.

1. No, usually they tell you to speed up, let others play, or get off the course without refund. The offer of refund was going over and above.
2. Police don't want to be in the Wa Post so probably some PC. If a business asks someone to leave and they refuse, what else is there to do except call law enforcement?

I've read a few different articles and saw the video. You have the jerk who co-owns the course who is about 25 yelling and almost getting physical with senior citizens. Yet the ladies skipped the 3rd hole and asked others to play through. It was very obvious racism.
And then the idiot drunk owner and his Dad made the wife phone and apologize to the ladies.
Why the heck would you treat your own members like that?

Watch the video of the young guy threatening the seniors.

Exactly, so why has the golf course been designated as being racist based on such limited information?

And I find it hard to believe that a threesome of men never caught up with a fivesome of women golfers.

Why? Especially when the golfer behind them confirmed such?

Are you saying that because it would take less time for a party of 3 than a party of 5?

Or because men rather than women? I mean, because you made that specific distinction.

So at what point in the video did he threaten the "seniors"? Looked to me like he was explaining for her video what happened. yes, he was somewhat frustrated, but she was egging him on, and don't forget you see what this lady taped, so she could edit it any way she wanted.

It is called "keep me out of this". And yes, a threesome will always catch up to a group of five.

So it is customary for golf courses to basically kick out their members for playing slow?
Does that mean they are no longer members at all and can't come back to play there?

No, it is called enforcing the rules of the course. This is a rule at all golf courses.
You can come back tomorrow, but be aware that the same rules apply.

I’ve never heard of the course management getting involved unless other players lodge a complaint. Playing slow isn’t really an “offense” unless you’re falling behind the group ahead of you AND refusing to let the group behind you play through.

Ok, I'm trying to clarify what they mean by "refund your membership". I don't play golf, so I dont know the rules of courses, but when I hear "refund membership" that to me means that you would no longer be a member and unable to use the service (in this case the golf course).

He was in fact trying to keep the peace, offering to refund the price of the round of golf, and offering (not threatening) to refund their membership fees.
Look, all I am saying is that enforcing etiquette rules is not racism. It is rather treating everyone the same. Isn't that what we ask of society? Treat everyone the same.

I made a response to post #8, but somehow it got included with the original quote by the previous poster.

Never played golf in my life so am trying to get a picture here.

So if a group is playing and the group playing behind them is constantly having to wait for them to finish playing a hole, they are playing too slow, correct? And if more than one group catches up, it’s a bigger problem.

The slow group can tell the group behind them to go ahead and play the joke while they wait? Is that what playing through is?

So the manager is saying they wouldn’t let others pass them or whatever and is that why they asked them to leave? Or is it just playing slow in general? Are beginning players only supposed to play at certain times?

I don’t understand why the guy behind them said they weren’t too slow when the lady herself said that they were. That’s confusing.

The police saying they had no reason to be called is odd too. I mean if they were acting out before they got there maybe they stopped when they did arrive?

I mean I am not sure anyone can say racism unless this club never lets blacks play. I mean I wouldn’t think the guy would suddenly be racist today but wasn’t yesterday. But stranger things have happened.
