I'm around for awhile and catching up on news. Seems like there is alot to catch up on!

The most aggrevating little new item here in NE Ohio is about an area pee wee football team fans (mostly white community) showing up in black face and using racial slurs against the black kids on opposing teams. A couple of the urban teams have pulled out of the playoffs because of it!

You wouldn't believe the what the little racists' parents and coaches have been saying about it, everything from, "It's not true", to "It's true but it wasn't that bad", to "They were just kidding around", to "They were just showing team spirit". One letter to the editor from a little cheerleader's mom said that everyone was being too "politically correct". :thumbsup2 Now there's an enlightened individual for ya!

While I am embarrassed as heck that this is happening in my neck of the woods, please tell me that if this happened in your areas your town would do a little less excuse making and a little more taking responsibility for it and APOLOGIZING for it!!!!

Reminds me of a song on a PSA that used to play a lot when I was a kid:

"You've got to be taught to hate and fear

You've got to be taught from year to year

It's got to be drummed in your dear little ear

You've got to be carefully taught.

You've got to be taught before it's too late

Before you are six, or seven, or eight

To hate all the people your relatives hate

You've got to be carefully taught."

This song is over 40 years old and I NEVER forgot it.

That's disgusting. :sad2:

Whats even more sad is that these kids are growing up in households that teach such hate.

Clearly, some parents are unfit to be moral guides in their childrens' lives.

Mind if I borrow this for the letter to the editor I'm composing?? :)

One letter to the editor was from a woman who said that the "media" was ruining the town's image! (No, lady, you're doing that just fine on your own!)

 I think they need to start running that again, though. :guilty:

But the really most disgusting stupid thing is that they don't consider themselves racist at all!!! It's truly mind boggling!

sickens me....

looks like they might be the next contestant.....
on the next borat movie :happytv:
cultural learnings of kakistan... :lmao:

Are any of the games played where the black players live? I wonder if those "parents" would have the guts to do that when they aren't in the safety of their own community. :sad2:

Where are the people in charge of the league? Can't they disqualify or punish the teams in some way for this?

That song is originally from "South Pacific". You should be able to find a CD of the music if you wanted.

I was teaching a Minority Studies class is a smallish town in west central Minnesota. I stood their in SHOCK at the name calling that came out of the mouths of these nice, middle class high school kids. There was a pretty large Hispanic population in town that was a recent addition to the area, mostly migrant workers. Oh boy was that interesting. One of the very popular girls in class was of Hispanic descent, her dad was a professor at the local community college. She went running out of class (another teacher was teaching that one, not me thankfully) because of the names the kids were calling the Hispanics. When it was pointed out that she was Hispanic the kids all just sat there with dropped mouths. You KNOW they get that at home.

I was talking to my Grandpa about this because I had NEVER experienced anything like this. He said that in the KKK was VERY active there years before. I found a lot of interesting info about that. WOW.

It's such a terrible story! Nothing bad seems to be happening to the Hudson team - except that they are looking bad, and they are actually blaming the media for that (not their fault, no sir :sad2: ).

As I understand it, one of the teams that pulled out of the league was in the playoffs! So their kids don't get to finish a good season. It's just awful.

In Washington, we have a lot of racism, but more times than not, its blacks who are racist against whites. :( And lately, its whites AND blacks against Hispanics. :(

I guess because I grew up with kids of all colors and creeds, I find it hard to believe this still exists. I judge a person by what is inside, and its sad that others don't too.

The only thing that went on here was when the Pee-Wee group named the "Pit Bulls" was barred from playing with no reason.
It seemed obvious that racism was involved, at least to me.

It was really sad for those little kids.

We just had a Phrat house here in Baltimore expended from racial overtones during a Halloween party.

The flyer asked to dress in Urban dress with the big chains and baggy pants. They had a lynched Pirate hanging from the porch roof.

Oh and these were your future doctors and engineers at Johns Hopkins Unv.

I love that song from South Pacific... very thought provoking now as it was then...

Recently I had a conversation with my older daughters about this play.....they had no idea what it was about truly....and now want to watch it on DVD...

Here is a letter to the paper from the other side of the story.........

We are proud of our Hud son Black Hawks team. They were undefeated, fought the good fight to earn the division championship and made it to the final four. That's where the fun ended for us - not because we lost our final playoff game, but because we have been accused of something ugly that simply did not occur: racism.

Our third- and fourth-grade players haven't learned about the Civil War in school yet; they have just about mastered the 50 states. The "super fans" who dressed to support our Black Hawks, aren't much older. So to accuse them of deliberately doing anything inflammatory against the Shaker Heights team is to dump baggage of other generations on them that they don't deserve. Prior to this, our kids didn't even know what the N- word is (unless they listen to rap music). Sadly, now they do, we had to tell them.

Yes, we had fans who cheered in the same manner they do for our high school games. They used pans, lids, drumsticks and face paint. I can assure you, if our team was named the Purple Hawks, their faces would have been purple.

Shame on anyone who is looking to turn children's athletic events into anything other than a positive way to grow.

From: ulie Clark Robinson

Robinson's husband is a Black Hawks coach, her son is a player and her daughter is a cheerleader.

Oh my God! Is that embarrassing or what! An adult wrote that letter! Can you believe it? And she wants to go on record saying it! What a complete idiot.

NO JULIE, the correct response it, "we are so sorry. we will do what we can to make it up to the other teams".

That is the case here, too, mostly with regard to Mexicans. :( I have even heard crap come out of my DD14's mouth. DH and I had a long talk with her, but unfortunately the influence of her mother and other family members seem to outweigh us. It was especially hurtful since I am part Mexican, and she didn't even care when she made the comment she did. :guilty:
