Seems fitting that the weekend after Minnie I do another event for women. This one however, was women only--significant others had to sit this one out--made for great scream teams though. As most of you weekly thread readers know, this event was the culmination of a 10 week clinic designed to get women off the couch and get them walking or running. There were clincs held all over the state. The event was started by a friend of our family, who is no longer with us--but the event is now held as a memorial to her and her love of running and sharing it with other women.
Anyway, got to the race early, picked up my chip (which I thought was odd for a small-ish 5K race--but whatever) and hit the porta-potty line. The one drawback of having to have my morning cup of coffee--is the dire need of a restroom. DH was a trooper this morning trying to contain to unruly children who were extremely unhappy being woken up so early for this.
All us ladies were led in some stretching and warm ups--then off to the starting line. I found one of my clinic leaders who convinced me to start at the front.

I've never been that close to the starting line before and it unnerved me slightly. Then we were off--900+ women running/walking the streets of a small ARkansas town. One thing to say about this course is that it is completely flat! Made for a great race. Nothing terribly eventful happened during the 3.1 miles, except for a great pace! Mile 1: 7:47, Mile 2: 7:48, Mile 3: 7:55, 0.1: 0:51. So much for negative splits, but pretty consistent!
So total time 24:20!

My fastest so far to date was 25:01--so I beat that by almost a minute!

I finished 19th overall out of 900+ women and 2nd in my age group in the clinic division. Luckily they divided up the clinic and open participants or I would have just missed an age group award. Gotta say the 30-34 and 35-39 age divisions for women are FAST!!!!!
I have found a new favorite running tune after this race--I had downloaded my EPCOT cd to my Ipod and loved running to Illumnations: Reflections of Earth--also made me think of all my WISH buddies cheering me on!
