Race Reports for 5/12, 13 and Encouragement/Kudos!

Stephanie- That is awesome! What an absolutely fantastic time. You may want to divert credit to your leaders, but you did the work. I think you have some talent there girl.

Stephanie, Great time on your event. Spectacular report. Congratulations to you!

I'm looking forward to hearing from the rest of our WISH Team.

DS and I also ran in the Muddy Buddy on Sat. DD (12) did the Mini Muddy Buddy. This was our first MD experience and loved it. If you ever get the chance, put on some old clothes and have a blast.

The outfits people wore were great. Everything from fairies to wedding gowns to a full nun gown.

The race and run were fun...nothing to difficult. The obstacles included a wall climb, rope climb, beam walk, and beam over and under. The course was pretty sandy which made riding a little rough.

We were lucky to be in the second wave which left 8 minutes after 8. DW was there and said some of the last waives were 45 minutes after the first wave. I heard the cannon going off as I was coming in.

Of course everyone does this even for the mud. Here are a few pictures:

I joined DD on the Mini Muddy Buddy because she would not get dirty enough without some help.

Jim--Wow on the mud! However, just can't ever see me doing that--something to do with the girly-girl side of me! Princesses can't get dirty!;) Great job!:thumbsup2

Wow, Jim! Thanks so much for the muddy pictures! Looks like tons of fun. Glad you had a great event! :goodvibes Anne

Congrats Jim and family!!!! How was the weather for it? Smokey? Hot? Icky? or not so bad? Thanks for the info on what the obscales were, I had wondered about that. I've mention it to Susan last year that we should do this LOL Course if there were some nice bling I'd have more pull LOL

Glad you & the family had such a good time :) Great pics too thanks for sharing! Such an interesting race so it's really nice to see more on it. :)

Can't wait to hear from Chester on his Muddy experience. And keeping my fingers crossed that Wendy and all those doing the Tri today had a good race.

The weather was fine. Not hot for central Florida when racing. By the time we left it was getting pretty warm. Glad I was not spending the day in the parks.

There was no bling for this race. We got a great wicking tech shirt, some new bamboo socks for sock exchange (I was not going to take my socks home!), and other stuff. The food was light, but there was plenty of free beer!

Great job on the races this weekend. Everyone seemed to have fun so far.

Jim - No bling??? I thought I saw some of the medals at the expo last weekend for the adult participants and one for the kid participants.

Jim- Great job on the Muddy Buddy. That's great that you can do that with your DD. It looks like you guys had so much fun. I can see my DD6 princess: really having fun in that mud pit.

The kids did get one. It was a small plastic/rubber one. Nothing Disney about it. All about Muddy Buddy.

They did pass out awards for the top three teams for each group, probably about 6 groups They got the bling,

We the masses got the shirt, socks, and beer.

I finished the Danskin Tri in an abysmal 01:49:16 -- but I did finish it. (I'll add photos to this post later -- haven't had time to get them together yet.)

The good news: My 15-yr-old daughters did GREAT! They were finished in approximately half the time it took me -- and that was without training at all (aside from their normal daily swimming [as year-round swimmers]). Ally actually finished 6th in her age group (01:03:54); and fourth overall in the swim (05:23).

The less good news. I finished, but not the way I hoped I would. :sad1: I have mixed feelings about my "triathlete" moniker. I knew the swim would be tough for me. About halfway to the first buoy in the open water swim through Seven Seas Lagoon, I was approached by one of the volunteer "swim angels" on the course. Because I was struggling, she would periodically ask me to swim with a noodle. In my mind, that's cheating :guilty: and I'm having a hard time feeling good about what I did. To frame it as positively as I can, I can honestly say that I swam the entire way without stopping and that I completed the entire course (finishing 1064th in the swim, which made it REALLY easy to locate my bike in the transition area! :rotfl:). The biggest surprise for me was that I found swimming in the lake very pleasant -- much nicer than the pool. I just took too long. The bike went as expected, considering I had spent virtually all my training time on learning to swim (I spent 5 days a week in the pool since February). I did slightly under a 15-minute mile during the run/walk through the Magic Kingdom -- I should have done better, but I was tiring.

I still think the Danskin Tri is an awesome event and very empowering for first-time female tri-ers like myself. I can't say enough good things about the organization, the freebies, and you can't beat the venue (Disney World -- DUH!!!). Obviously, we had a great time in the parks -- and I even managed to sneak in a mini-WISH meet with Disney Running's Robert and DW Linda.

I need to decide what I'm going to do... There is a part of me that feels the need to vindicate myself by finding another tri to do and completing the swim as I feel I should have, but I really don't enjoy swimming and I'm obviously not very good at it, so from that standpoint it doesn't make sense to me to continue to pursue it. I did like the bike and I know I could improve my bike and run times with more brick (bike+run) training. The girls are absolutely fired up and are already asking about going back next year (with faster bikes).

Next up for me is a long summer with the Galloway training group run/walking the hills in Raleigh. I can get off some of the weight I gained with all those swim lessons and get back to improving my pace on terra firma.

Hi, Wendy!! Please STOP belittling your accomplishment!!! YOU FINISHED A TRI!!!!!:cheer2: :cheer2: I was already in awe of all of the halfs you do..now this!!!:worship: Congratulations!!! Looking forward to seeing you in October! :goodvibes Anne

P.S. Congratulations and WOW to your DDs!!

OMG Wendy! A tri??? That is awesome!!! I second Anne!!!

Awesome job, everyone!

Wendy -- You are a triathlete!! How amazingly proud you should be!!!! :woohoo:

Here's my brief report on the 5k we did yesterday morning. We got home the night before at 1:20 a.m., at which point I still had to do my 100 crunches and 100 push-ups before falling in to bed to sleep until 6:45 a.m. So, even though my time was 41:56, which was slower than I'd have liked, I am not beating myself up over it. Can't wait to break 40 minutes, but I'm pleased with my splits (I jogged/ran for seconds here and there just to pass someone):

mile 1 -- 12:27 (best speed 8:56)
mile 2 -- 13:53 (best speed 10:04)
mile 3 -- 13:08 (best 9:53)
.2 miles -- 13:18 pace (best 11:08)

Really not bad, but I am going to work on the jogging intervals to become a bit more regular.

The kicker? I would have been in the top 3 walkers if I'd done one more wogging interval past the 2 women who kept jogging past me every time I got ahead of them. I missed it by 20 seconds!

The course was lots and lots of hills. Howard was off his best time by almost 5 minutes and one of the top male walkers told me it took him 4 minutes more than his very consistent, normal time, so I don't feel too badly about it.

Cam, CONGRATULATIONS!! Time, shmime..You've been a busy woman AND still recovering healthwise...not to mention your Minnie weekend!!! Way to go, Cam!!:cheer2:

WDW Muddy Buddy 2007 Race Report:

Thanks to everyone that expressed encouragement for the event and concern for the wildfire smoke. Fortunately, The smoke was a non-issue and the skies over Orlando were clear.

Our goal (DS17 and me) was to better last year's time of 00:53:48.4. So with that in mind, I went to bed early - early Saturday at 12:30am. We got up at 4:00am and hit the road at 4:30 so we would arrive around 6:00am. We checked in, got our race numbers and goody bags then went back to the truck to rest up for the 8:00am start sequence.

We were also in the second group to start with Jim and his son, but I did'nt know any other Wishers were participating. Could have had a micro Wish meet. DS and I were wearing lime green singlets to represent.

I started out the first leg on the bike and DS started 2 minutes later running. The first leg was about 1.1 miles long, went over a grass, pavement, gravel and sidewalks and ended at the first obstacle. So I parked the bike and completed the obstacle which I think was a short rock climb wall, then took off on a run for the second leg.

The second leg was 1.2 miles that went in and around the ballfields and ended with a rope net/ladder that went up the steep side of an inflatible structure and culminated with a slide down the back side. I found the bike and took off riding on the third leg.

The third leg was about 1.4 miles around more lakes and fields. I got to the third obstacle, parked the bike and ran along 3 balance beams and took of off on a run for the 4th leg.

The 4th leg ran for 1.3 miles through some wooded trails with a lot of sugar sand and not much air movement. Is seemed like it took forever. the obstacle at the end of the leg was an over/under weave through parallel horizontal bars. Found the bike and took off riding on the last leg.

The last leg started in the woods, then headed along the entry road embankment off-camber, then headed towards WWoS along dirt paths and sidewalks 1.4 miles to the final obstacle - the mud pit.

Last year when I got to the mud pit DS was waiting for me. This year I was waiting on him. He arrived on a run after 3 minutes and we hit the pit together and crawled through red-clay mud, got up and finished in 00:58:28.9. Almost 5 minutes slower than last year.

We didn't meet our goal, but we had a ton of fun and DS is already strategising for next year. Let's see - how about some wider tires on the bike to help him in the sand, and our training for Goofy in January certainly won't hurt.

Here's the course:
