Race Reports for 5/12, 13 and Encouragement/Kudos!

Wendy--Kudos to you for even attempting a tri! And many congrats for finishing whatever the time!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: The swimming is what's holding me back from attempting a tri. Once our pool opens here in another week or two, I might try to improve my swimming--we'll see

Cam--didn't even know you were running this weekend! But congrats to you and Howard! Those splits looked great! :thumbsup2

Wendy- Great job! It was interesting reading your report. The thought of a tri scares me!

Wendy- congratulations on completing the TRI. Don't belittle your accomplishment at all, and don't question whether you completed the swim portion either. You did great! Sorry, I missed you at the Pig. It would have been great to see your smile again.

You are all too kind!

I loved the Muddy Buddy reports -- Now there's an event that takes courage! Great job!!!

And Cam, you are a speed demon!!! I think my next goal will be to complete a marathon in under 6 hours. Don't know how long that will take, but I'm certain I won't pick Disney as my record breaker. (I love the character photos too much! :rotfl: ) I think I may try to work something out with my tri coach because trying to get faster on my own just isn't happening. Good for you for making fabulous progress!

Chester, GREAT job...goal or no goal!! Glad that smoke was not an issue. Thanks so much for the course, too...It looks like such fun!! :goodvibes Anne

Wendy, DisneyWorld Marathon 08, You, Erica and I, going under 6 hours.

Congratulations to everyone on great races this weekend!!!

Jim and Chester--I loved the Muddy Buddy reports!! That is one race, I really think I would love to do!!!!

Stephanie--wow, you were flying in that race!!

Cam--great job on your race!! You should be so proud of yourself, especially being that you have been very busy lately!

Wendy--That is so awesome that you completed a Tri!! You should be very proud of yourself!!

Stephanie: What a terrific time and finishing place for your 5 K. Great job.

Jim: It looks like you had fun.

Wendy: Congrats on finishing your tri. It's such a great accomplishment. I'm sorry the swim angel took a little away from your race. You shouldn't feel as if it diminishes what you accomplished.

Cam: Congrats on your race. Especially given all the hills.

Chester: Conrats on finishing your race. Sorry you didn't beat your time goal, but it sounds like you had fun. And there's always next year.

That's very sweet, and I'm sorry I sounded "down" on my angel in my report. In fact, my swim angel did an awesome job! She encouraged me, chatted pleasantly, told me how great I was doing, and acted as if everyone took 26 minutes to swim a quarter mile. She never said anything critical or negative. At the end of the swim, she even stood up and applauded and cheered for me! What a sweetheart! It's only myself I'm disappointed in -- because with all the hours I spent practicing in the pool, I still wasn't able to keep up and "swim like a grownup" in the lake. The angels are wonderful volunteers and I want to make sure I set the record straight.

Really, Dave?!?!?! And we'll still have time for photos? (Because I HAVE to get my character photos on race day! It's a priority!)

You sound just like Erica. Are you doing the Goofy again in 08? We have made a compromise one of the races we do for time the other is for pics and fun.

Dave:hippie:

Yep, I'm all about the Goofy. I have a streak going -- and a pact with a friend that we'll be one of the "perfect 10" Goofy's 8(?) years from now (someone who has done all 10 Goofy challenges).

Seriously, I am thinking right now that I will likely shoot for the under-6-hour marathon either in Raleigh at the inaugural City of Oaks marathon in November or at the Kiawah Island marathon in December. I know under-6-hours doesn't sound like much of a goal, but I've never done it and I really think if I trained adequately and worked on my speed that I could. I love the photos so much at Disney, it would be hard to pass up a photo opp. As far as I'm concerned, that's what makes the Disney races worthwhile. And because I'm doing Goofy, I don't want to push too hard and risk injury. My thinking is my Goofy racing is more about endurance than speed -- well, as long as I outrun the sweeps! :)

ok, my race was the "Mother of all 5k's" but it sounds a lot more intimidating than it really was...I think that's the only way they could get the Mothers Day reference in there.

My DD wanted to do this one with me, so I let her, it was her first ever race, but she's athletically inclined, so I figured she'd be fine.

Gorgeous day, a little windy, but hey, having the wind at your back is a good thing! Part of the course was on a gravel/grass trail, I think this may have slowed me down a little, but the director said it probably slowed everyone down a little.

For the first mile or so, DD insisted on staying with me, I kept telling her to go ahead, but?? She did finally get going, but kept looking back to check on me.

I have met an aswesome lady (I dont know her name yet) that has been at all the races I've been in so far, she is faster than me, but always watches for me, and always waits at the finish to cheer me in...she is WONDERFUL!

So, DD finished, then came back to run it in with me, yes, I ran it in this time! I was 44 seconds faster than last time!!

All the moms got roses at the end, and there was a ton of food. Out of water by the time I got in, but my DS found a machine and bought me one.

DD & I were the 12th mother/child team (out of 13)...she placed 189 (but could have done better if she hadnt been babysitting me!) and I was 191 (out of 217)...my best so far!

Thanks for all the encouragement!!

Great job, Angie!! and you RAN the whole way!!:woohoo: Did you speak to the director about being OUT of water??!!

oh no, I didn't run the whole way....I ran a lot of it...but not all of it...I DID run thru the finish line though! It was my first time for that!

No, I didn't say anything about the water...figured I just need to get my pace up, then there will be some left when I make it in!

Angie, you were awesome! Good for you for doing this with your daughter. I'm glad too that you've found a kindred soul in another racer, even if you don't know her name yet. Congratulations!
