Quinoa

I tried quinoa after I started hearing all the hype a year or two ago. I thought it tasted kind of earthy, like dirt. Not really my bag.

That's definitely NOT how it's supposed to taste. Just so ya know.

::yes:: Probably didn't rinse the quinoa.

I've been wanting to try quinoa, but I find some of the recipes a little intimidating.

What's intimidating about making it like oatmeal, with a little salt, butter, milk & a little sugar or honey & cinnamon? Or making it with canned chicken broth instead of water and just adding a little pesto?

I've found quinoa to be one of the most versatile foods. The same way rice or pasta is. Both can also be used in intimidating recipes, or made really simply.

Make sure you rinse it well or it is bitter. I personally don't like it plain, but in a recipe it is awesome.

Imzadi, great ideas. Thanks so much. I, too, have hypothyroidism so I battle my weight.

Would you know I went to SuperTarget today and completely forgot about it.

A new store opened that had healthy pre packaged fresh foods, cheeses, etc - they had a Red Inca Quinoa - figured I should taste how its supposed to taste before I figure out if I can make it!

It was good, a grain, like rice - then dh read the ingredient list - it had a light vinegrette with it... I had served it as a side dish to our chicken.

I know ds' fiance raves about Quinoa, she makes it all the time -
