A few quick ticket questions as I debate whether to buy before year end for our March/April trip. First, I have read about Sea World ticket prices going up and Disney likely to follow, do ticket prices often rise in the new year? Second, if you don't have the park hopper option but want to go to a different park, can you use a second day on a Magic Your Way base ticket to do so, or does a base ticket only allow entry to one park each calendar day? Thanks for any help!

No you may not "forfeit" an additional "day" off of your non-hopping pass to do park hopping with.

Base tickets allow your choice of any one park each day, you can leave and return to the same park.

You almost cannot lose buying tickets now. Historically prices have never gone down in general. Also if the dollars you already spent on older park hoppers could get you more bang for the buck with Magic Your Way passes given your vacation schedule, you could do a trade in prior to usage and get the benefit.

You can buy base tickets now and add hopping later if you want. If nothing besides the prices themselves change adding hopping at Guest Relations will cost the same $37. now or I guess $39. next year regardless of when you bought or how much you paid for the base ticket. So adding hopping later won't lose the advance purchase discount.
