Quick thoughts on POP

We just returned from a 7 night stay at POP, and I wanted to get my thoughts down while they're fresh in my mind.

We were in the 70s section, building 6, a corner room all the way at the back end of the building. I could see the water (Hourglass Lake?) from my window, as well as the unfinished buildings for the other half of POP. IMO, they need to either finish the resort or take down the buildings - it looks trashy to me to have those unfinished buildings sitting over there, but not a big deal.

My son loved the Hippy Dippy pool, though he did miss having a slide. But overall, he really had a good time there.

The food court was pretty good, but it seemed crowded all the time. That's to be expected from such a huge resort this time of year, but a bit of a pain sometimes.

The surroundings of the resort, with all of the huge decorations was great - my son especially loved the giant foosball players. The rooms were cute and were fine for the two of us, though if I were going to stay there with all four of us, I would want two rooms. That's just me, I like a bit of extra space when we're all there.

The only thing I found to be somewhat lacking at times was the transportation, especially from the water parks back to the resort. We waited 35 minutes one day at Typhoon Lagoon, while 2 buses for every other resort came and went. I finally took out my cell to call POP, and then a POP bus drove up. There were also horrendous lines for the buses every day from the resort to the parks. Again, a function of resort size and time of year, but I think that Disney could do a better job of sending buses more frequently when the lines are backed up like that.

Overall, we had a really good time there. While I much prefer the mods, I would stay at POP again if the budget dictated.

I have to agree with you about the Legendary Years buildings. In their current condition they're a bit of an eyesore. Hopefully construction will start up again soon! Too bad about the buses! We just got back a week ago and I only noticed long lines to go to the parks early in the morning. By about 10am or so they had decreased dramatically. Looks like crowds must be picking up!

we are heading to pop in a few weeks. I've heard both good and bad about the busses. What can you do? Slow bus service can't spoil the trip unless you let it. Glad you had a good time!

We were at POP for 10 nights, May 26th - June 5th. We were in the 50's building #1, first floor, right by main building, great location. The crowds are very large at night trying to get back from MK, bus service was OK. We used our car for all other parks, just easier to drive to AK, MGM and Epcot (park at Boardwalk and walk over). We enjoyed our stay very much and found that POP is convenient to everything. We drove to DTD and Typhoon, bus service is notoriously slow from these locations for all the resorts. I recommend driving if you have a car.

ITA, the bus service didn't spoil the trip for us at all, I was just commenting on the fact that I didn't find it to be nearly as good at POP as it has been at the mods I've stayed at.

That may be true in general, but our experience on this trip to Typhoon Lagoon was that the buses were coming frequently for other resorts but not for POP.

Just got back from a 3 night stay at WDW we stayed 2 nights with my cousin at Riverside and 1 night at pop. I thought riverside was very pretty but the food and service on the bus was a long walk in my opinion we were in the 17 building. Also neither food court suggests plain things like omlete, pancakes, or just waffles its part of a meal with potatoes and biscuits. I thought the food at Pop was better. We did come at 830am and it was a zoo at first but by the time we got our food it had panned out. The gift shop was really nice and had some nice things. The room was not much smaller than the one at Riverside, the pool (laptop was really nice) we are going back in Jan can't wait with a chance for Oct.

Thanks for the review of POP glad you enjoyed it for the most part. We will be staying there for the first time in Nov/Dec and have always stayed in moderates before. Waiting to see if there is a public code issued for Nov/Dec with which we would go ahead and upgrade to another stay at CBR, we love it there and haven't stayed there for a couple of years.....a nice code would push us to stay again. However if one isn't issued, from everything I have heard it sounds like POP will be just fine. :wave2:
