Okay, I totally made my ADRs at the 180-day mark... but now I am rethinking them (I'm about 90 days out). I haven't send in my Allergy sheets, so I really need to get on this.

One of us is celiac, dairy allergy, vegan.
The other is gluten, dairy, egg, soy free (not vegan).

We wanted to try new ones... since we always do the same.
We have:
Ohana, Boma, Coral Reef, Flying Fish, BOG, WCC, Kouzzina, Citricos, Tusker House, Cape May Cafe. We will probably eat at La Hacienda, but won't make ADRs (sometimes I get sick there).

What else are your favourites?
We do NOT want to do Jiko, Sanaa, or 1900 Park Fare.

Thanks!

You're already going to most of my favorites! But I always love to suggest great places to eat at WDW. :thumbsup2

Kona Cafe - any meal

Chefs de France

Portobello at DTD

Yachtsman Steakhouse

Thanks!!!
Can you tell me why and what you've eaten there recently in the past? That will help narrow it down!

I also love Kona Cafe particularly for breakfast and lunch.
I'm GF/DF and I love this place for the variety. Probably my most favorite thing about Kona for breakfast are the allergy friendly Mickey waffles (which would cover gluten, dairy, egg, soy and vegan). I like their lunch choices too--my favorite has been the Island Chicken Sandwich on a GF/DF bun (not egg free, but they might now have an egg free option), and I also liked the stir fry bowl. I think there is one option that has tofu which would be great for the vegan guest.

I also have enjoyed the Wave a lot. They have the same allergy waffle mix as Kona and they made me banana walnut pancakes last time, which were awesome. They have a lot of seasonal and fresh fruit/vegetables too. I haven't been for lunch, but breakfast has been great here.

Hope that helps! :thumbsup2

Thanks! It really does help, in the way that helps me take Kona Cafe off my list! I have been debating about it. But if the breakfast option is the waffles, we get those at a few places already, so I probably wouldn't go out of my way there, at least for breakfast. The stirfry bowl sounds good, but I tend to eat a lot of rice in Disney from the places we like to go, and oddly, it really bothers my celiac. I've read your blog often, which helps make some choices, too! So thanks on that front.

You are totally tempting me with the banana walnut pancakes at the Wave! I went there for dinner last year and had the curry. It was really tasty (very rich though... there must have been a whole can of coconut milk in the serving)... but I definitely was feeling the effects of gluten. I also had an appetizer, so I am not sure what it was. But halfway through the meal I couldn't even see straight (i get terrible brainfog as my first symptom). It was really disappointing. The chef was nice enough, though a little... frazzled, maybe? Which was odd because it was after 8pm and the place was dead. Maybe it was a long day and he just wanted us out of there.

We do have the dining plan (we got free dining) so I am not sure if I want to book another breakfast with all the quick service to use up. Quick service is such a pain! Haha :)

I think that you can get rice noodles at Kona too, but I can't remember off the top of my head. Of course if rice bugs you, that wouldn't be such a great option either!

In the past, I've heard some not-so good reviews of the Wave (like really bad cross contamination, etc) but the few times I've been I've had a good experience. My trips have been more recent, so maybe they've improved since they were getting a bad rap in the past. The pancakes were pretty tasty, I must say! Of course, it was my own suggestion because the chef wasn't sure if they would be good, but they turned out great!

I'm glad my blog has helped too :)
I can't wait to hear your reviews!

It was me who had the really bad experience at the Wave. Not only was DD14 up all night throwing up, the chef wouldn't even acknowledge when I spoke with him the next day that perhaps he had been wrong to not write down all of her allergens or any of the other "issues" we encountered that meal. Because of Sara's experience with breakfast I've considered giving it another try and just walking out if the chef doesn't seem to be taking our allergies seriously but I just can't seem to bring myself to do it.

I know somebody else recommended Les Chefs de France but we'll never be back. That was the only meal where we experienced a chef who displayed annoyance with having to come to the table and who refused to do anything more than a bunless burger and dressingless salad for a child. I'm not sure that there would actually be a single thing for OP to eat there based on my experience with lack of desire to do a darned thing for allergies.

DD14 got a really nice rice noodle with steak and veggie sautee at Kona. It was delicious though at the time they were struggling to get good quality steaks for their lunch steaks so there was a lot of fat in the steak (the chef was explaining this to us as we chatted with him). It still tasted really good to her but she does have texture issues and only ate maybe a total of half the steak because of it. I hear they've fixed their supplier problem since then. Short version is yes they have rice noodles at Kona.

I can only eat so much rice as well. For me I think it's more the nutrient ratios that bug me. I have to have a certain amount of protein and fat with each meal and can only tollerate so much simple carbs per meal or else I end up feeling sick later (not glutened type sick; more sugar crash feeling though I'm not diabetic or hypoglycemic (I have a pancreatic insufficiency but it has to do with my enzymes, not my insulin).

At Kona, I REALLY like the Kona salad just without the blue cheese. The dressing is delicious and the pears and nuts are a wonderful and light lunch that leaves me feeling perfect (and leaves room for dessert; that's important after all).

I don't know anything about eating with the allergies you are dealing with, but one restaurant that we tried last trip and everyone in our party really enjoyed was T-Rex at DTD. It had a really neat theme and the food was AWESOME!!! You might want to think about that one.

I saw above that you were not interested in Sanaa and I wonder why. We have had the most wonderful experiences at Sanna and could not recommend it enough for those with allergens.

We were just there on 11/13 and one of group has a gluten/egg/dairy allergy and was treated to such a wonderful meal from Chef Trish.

To start, we went for lunch at 1. We were seated pretty quickly and Chef Trish came out shortly after being seated. She brought a special menu and walked our friend through all of his options.

The food did take a little longer than normal to come out because there had been a cross contamination issue (they cooked actual tandoori chicken instead of tandoori style chicken) so Chef Trish treated our friend to a little extra special side dish with different veggies and spices which he loved. Trish told us how she believes meals are not just about food but the process of eating together and breaking bread and felt terrible that it took longer than normal to get our food. It was very sweet.

At the end of the meal the rest of the group wanted to try the Chai Cream dessert (we ordered one) and Chef Trish insisted we each get to try our own and made an extra special mango dessert for our friend. She even came out to explain everything she put in it and take a picture with him and dessert.

Our friend, Brice, was blown away by this meal in terms of selection, quality and taste. I bet that even the vegan in your party would be able to be accommodated rather easily. The food is "exotic" for most Americans, but it is so good and totally worth it. After 3 trips to WDW and 2 trips to Sanaa, this is a must do for every trip.

All I am saying... Think about it

I know they are very good. I've eaten there about seven times. I often don't feel well after I eat there, so I don't want to book an ADR, especially if I am already sick on the trip (which can easily happen). Thanks, though.

I love Chef Trish there! She's fabulous! My brother who is in culinary school came for a visit and I took him here on the way home from the airport. He was blown away by her and her willingness to accommodate.

For me, it's always a must-do. I adore Indian & African food, so I'm in heaven. And the great thing about the food there is that a lot of it is naturally gluten free and often dairy free (Durban chicken and green curry shrimp need no modifications), which makes me happy!

Sorry to hear @ls15 that you've not felt well after eating there. That's a bummer.

Fair enough :) I suppose I should have waited to get on my Sanaa love soap box until after you said why you would not want to eat there. Best of luck finding some new places to enjoy :)

Chef Trish IS excellent - I've had her many times at Boma and Mara, too.

I, too, adore Indian and African food!

I am also gluten-free, currently lactose-free as well (actually intolerant) but on my last trip to Disney World I was gluten-free, dairy-free and on pureed food.

My favourite restaurants were Liberty Tree Tavern, and, oddly enough, Contempo Cafe.

Liberty Tree has gluten-free gravy, a lot of different veggies (my favourite was their zucchini-onion mix), and they make this amazing fresh berry sorbet for dessert, as well as having one of the best dairy-free margarines on property. They're always a favourite for me, because it's the closest I can get to eating what everyone else eats!

I've also had awesome experiences with Contempo Cafe - they make these terrific gluten-free flatbreads with soy or rice cheese, caramelized onions, and wilted greens that are absolutely amazing.

I also really liked Pizzafari, they had a gluten-free vegan pizza (I had the choice of daiya or soy cheese) that I can't wait to try again.

Not all sit-down, but definitely my favourites.
