I'm making apple crisp for the first time, to be served tomorrow at work.

Do I bake it tonight and then serve it cold?

Or, can I make it tonight and then bake it at work (we have an oven). Or bake it tonight and then just warm it up in the oven at work?

If I bake it tonight, do I leave it on the counter or in the refrigerator?

Hopefully no one I work with is reading this and realizing I have no idea how to make apple crisp :) If it's bad, they'll never volunteer me again to make it!

I agree with Beth76. Warm apple crisp + ice cream =

I would bake it tomorrow and serve it warm. With ice cream.

THANKS! So I should put it all together tonight and leave it in the fridge?

I bought whipped cream to top it with because I can't make it to work without the ice cream melting. Although if I can get there early enough I can stop & get some.

Just thought of something else - are you suggesting baking it tomorrow just so it will be warm? I was kind of hoping to bake it tonight so I could taste it. What if it's horrible and we don't find out until everyone is eating it!

I know, I should have done a test run earlier :)

To tell you the truth, I'm not really sure if it would be okay overnight. I think it would probably be okay, but I've never put it together ahead of time and let it sit overnight before baking it. If the cut-up apples are in the sugary mixture, I think they should be okay. Sorry I can't be more help!

Actually, I think it would be fine if you bake it tonight and then just warm it up again tomorrow. I've done that before and it tastes good that way too.

I'm not sure how you're making it. I slice apples into the pan. I buy a mix from the store which is essentially oats, sugar and some spices. I cut butter into the mixture and then pour it over the apples then bake. Preparing it ahead without baking might make the oats soggy.

I do always have leftovers and I reheat them, but it's not as good. If you're really pressed for time, you could probably get away with it. And whipped cream is a good alternative to ice cream.

I suppose if you're really in a time crunch, you could slice the apples tonight. Pour lemon (or some type of citrus) juice on them to prevent browning. Then just prepare the rest tomorrow and bake at work.

That sounds good!
My apple crisp (grandma's recipe) has a top and bottom crust with thinly sliced apples, kellogg's corn flakes, and cinnamon/sugar/possibly butter (I can't recall) mixture layered inbetween. Then I drizzle a sugar glaze over the top crust after it comes out of the oven.

I also think that whipped cream would be good with it if you aren't able to get ice cream.

I wouldn't put the "crispy" part on top in the fridge- it might get soggy. keep it separate before its ready to bake.
