3 weeks today and we will be at the airport; 2 weeks until school closes.... Can you sense the excitement?!

My questions?

1) we're loading our FairFX but haven't used it for 2 years; do I need to ring them to check all is well with the card and that we are going to use it again?

2) is there a maximum daily withdrawal per day;

Off to stretch DS7: he needs to grow 1 inch in 3 weeks to get on Harry Potter!

The cards are valid for three years i think

Daily withdrawl is i think 500 but not sure

If you're card has not expired then you're good to go! If it has expired then you'll need a new card! Sorry can't help with the withdrawal question as we never withdraw money! :goodvibes

You mention about drawing out cash, as you are staying at a Disney hotel like us, we never drawer out cash on the card. We pay our balance with it and usually buy a small amount of dollars before we go to Florida. We put all our Disney expenses on our room card:thumbsup2. When we go shopping outside of disney we just use the card

The card is valid for 3 years so you won't have a problem and if you did it wouldn't allow you to load the money on it in the first place. My problem is always remembering the card number:rotfl2:

Also we usually get paid when we are out there so top up the card during our holiday too

I'm going to tag on to this thread:-

I've just applied for a new card and paid £££ onto by bank transfer - I'm panicking that I've just paid a whack of money onto this - any idea when the card will arrive?

We're going 3 weeks on Friday!

Also, can I use this card to pay for stuff in $$$ online when I get it? Thinking about pre-ordering Photopass?

Thanks
Snow xxxx

The card shouldn't take any longer than 14 days, your pin should come before that so make sure you keep that safe. You can use the card to pay for things in $ online, I've booked disney accommodation and I've paid for universal tickets in dollars too. My advice to you (particularly if you have a lot of money on your FairFX) is to order a friends and family card. Last time I checked it was £6 but it means if you (heaven forbid) lose your card, the friend or family member you have got the card for can access all the funds as normal. I got a card for my boyfriend which means he can access my FairFX card and we'll probably just leave that in the safe. Enjoy your trip!

True :thumbsup2

I've had mine for over two years (and used it plenty for all kinds of transactions including paying for things in US$ online to avoid the charges). I seem to recall mine arriving fairly quickly; certainly in less than the 14 days they suggested I should allow.

Something to keep in mind with a FairFX is that it is NOT the card you want to hand over to your resort/hotel to hold as security against room charges. This does not operate like a credit card in that respect and several folk have returned from Disney to report that they had no access to a great big chunk (or even all) of their holiday funds because the hold had locked out a substantial sum. Even if you contact them immediately, this can take several days at best to resolve. Aside from that and trying to make fewer large rather than many small withdrawals if you are drawing cash, it's brilliant :thumbsup2

So did they ask you how much you wanted to put on it? Where were you staying? They didn't authorise or block any extra?

We hired a car with thrifty last year and i gave them a visa debit card from an emoty account so they couldnt take any money, no probs there

We have stayed at alot of disney resorts and all i have put money on as never had a credit car, some years just put $100 on others $500 on, its up to you or you dont have to leave any out you dont get charging facilities

I don't know and think it depends on a variety of factors. I've never tried it because FairFX terms and conditions and small print pages actually caution you not to as well (few people actually read these though).

As Orangetiggs did, if I understood her correctly, was to add the cash right onto their room keys and not hand over the FairFX card for imprint which means they won't be able to put a hold on the card. The other option is just not to add charging to your room key and just use the FairFX card for purchases. You aren't compelled to add charging now anyway and I have stayed twice and opted not to give a card number over. It's optional not mandatory so you're not going to be at a disadvantage by not having a credit card.

Thanks very much for your help guys, I definitely won't be opting for charging facilities! I was so worried there, I thought my holiday pennies were going to be wiped right out! Haha, didn't mean to hijack the thread! My fairfx card has always worked a treat!

Okay, one question (or two!) answered and a new one formed! (just not about FairFX)

We're not staying on property and booked package - will I still need to give the hotel a credit card (or debit card) to put a hold on?

No, it's only if you want to make purchases with your room key and charge it to your room. When internet access was still charged, you had to have charging added to your room key to enable this, but now that wifi is free in all Disney resorts, you have no reason to give a card over at all.

I probably won't this year now that we are not having to pay for internet access. As mentioned before, twice I have opted not to. It's your choice :)

Hi Tiggies,

Thanks for that but I'm staying on I-Drive - not at Disney so does that still apply?

I don't know. Every hotel has its own charging policy so you would be best to contact your hotel and ask them whether they require a mandatory card imprint on check in. At least you have time to decide what the best way would be to do it if you find this out before you arrive. Apologies for any confusion. I have only ever stayed onsite and was referring specifically to Disney resorts as I am familiar with their policies
