Questions for Priceline Users...

Can you explain how this would work in regards to airfare? Is it safe to book this way?

Can I try this for the next month-6 weeks and then if I don't get a decent price, cancel the offer and book my airfare through my travel agent?

Can you give me any other hints/tip before I look into this?

Priceline will provide you with the cheapest price, generally, for wherever you want to go. You specify dates, destination, number of tickets, and of course, the price that you are willing to pay. They take down all the information, ask you if everything is correct, and then require that you provide your credit card number. If your bid is accepted, it will be charged to your credit card. There are no refunds available, so you have to be very, very, very careful. You will know within 30 minutes by e-mail whether the bid has been accepted. That is the good part. Here comes the bad part: you have NO control over your itinerary. It may be non-stop, or it may also take you from Newark to Detroit to Atlanta to Orlando. You also get NO frequent flier miles. I like Priceline, but not for air travel. For air travel, I suggest you go to lowestfare.com or sidestep.com or travelocity.com. Good luck! null

Our family of seven has been extremely happy with PL. When making our bid we only agree to one switch on our flight, so you don't have to hopping off the plane in five different cities. We also check off that we will only fly jet aircraft. You must go into this realizing you can't cancel or change a thing. Last time we had a 3 and a half hour layover in Charlotte. This time we have a one and a half hour layover in Atlanta.

Belle5, what price did you get for your priceline airfair? I see that you live in Richardson, TX. I would be leaving out of Dallas as well (I live in Stillwater, OK, though) and was wondering what bid got accepted for you.

With PL you must be prepared to loose the first and last day of your vacation. Your flight may get in very late and leave early in the am.

I would like to clarify a couple of comments. One was misinformation and the other is no longer valid. You will not get a routing such as was suggested with two stops or changes of planes unless YOU specifically say you are willing to accept such a routing. The default is up to 1 connection or stop. As to the 3-1/2 hr. layover, as of November 2000, Priceline now guarantees that layovers will not exceed 3 hrs. on a domestic itinerary.

In response to the original post, there is nothing to cancel once your offer has been denied. Priceline does not re-submit your offer. You must re-submit it yourself.

Priceline used to require the customer to accept at least one connecting flight (which by definition requires a change in plane).

Lewisc, please re-read what I posted. I said TWO stops or changes of planes. What you posted is still what Priceline requires. I was correcting misinformation that was posted earlier in this thread.

You really like to be the Priceline policeman around here.
