Questions for Ipod Experts

I'm thinking about getting DH an Ipod for his birthday. He'd like one for audiobooks and a little bit of music, mostly when exercising. He can't use an Ipod at work for security reasons -- no recording devices allowed. He might listen in the car, but it has a tape deck, so he could use the tape converter.

Does anyone know how much space the audiobooks take up? I'm trying to decide whether I should get a 1G or 4G Ipod. How much does it cost to download the audiobooks? What's your favorite download site for books?

Also, is the white or black finish better for not showing scratches? Any other recommendations for "must haves" with the Ipod (acessories, etc.)?

DH bought the 2GB Nano for me for Valentines day . It's an awesome toy!

Everything I've put on my iPod has been off a Cd. Load it onto iTunes, download it to the iPod. Most public libraries have books on CD's.

I wouldn't think that a audiobook on a CD would take up any more space than a music CD. I have 192 songs and 3 pictures loaded on my Nano. It's taken up less than 1 GB.

It's a great gift!

I wouldn't know the answers to some of your questions, but one website I like to look at for iPod answers is http://www.ilounge.com

As for accessories, I just ordered a case for my Nano from this site less than a week ago: http://www.corecases.com/home.php I love the case. Love it. I was so terrified to even touch my Nano until the case came. It's made of the same metal iPod made the Minis out of, and my Nano fits in it like a glove. It's inexpensive, it was shipped very quickly & I was even sent a personal note (turns out the owner of the company lives in the same town as me--small world. )

Although, since you're buying it for DH, I don't recommend the pink case like I got.

both colors show scratches, you definately need a skin. if you're looking at a nano, spend the extra $50.00 and double the memory. I've got a 20 gig Ipod and the 4 gig nano. the nano is full with a little less than 800 titles on it. my wife used to listen to audiobooks, but I don't remember the file sizes. they're not small.
