Questions for early Alaskan cruisers!

Here are my questions:

For those that are used to cruising in warmer climates what tips/advice can you give for sailing in a colder/cooler environment? Is there any thing that you didn't bring that you wished you had (i.e. warmers, etc.)? Is there anything that you did bring that you found to be a waste of packing space?

Thanks everyone for your great posts and questions...getting VERY excited and we don't go till June 28.
My questions:
1)Anyone know what is on the Taste of Alaska Menu? We are scheduled for Palo that night and wondered if we'd miss anything good.
2)Also, are they doing the Tea with Characters?

Thanks :-)

What's the best spot for viewing during the day when you are sailing by Tracy Arm? We have a verandah cabin on the port side of the ship and I wonder if we will have a good view from there at any point of the day.

Tracy's Arm is like a box canyon. You sail in, then turn (carefully) and sail back out. So if you miss something on the way in, you'll see it on the way back out.

Ships often have a naturalist on board during the Tracy's Arm scenic cruising. You can turn on your stateroom t.v. and hear the narration while you're out on your verandah where you don't have to elbow your way through the crowds to see anything. The naturalist is on the bridge and if he calls your attention to something on the port side, fine. Otherwise you'll see it on the flip side. It seems like sometimes he just keeps talking to fill the time, or because he likes the sound of his own voice over the microphone. At that point I turn off the t.v. and count myself fortunate that I can see the scenery from the serenity of my verandah without the constant chatter.

Someone who's on the ship this week said they had a naturalist speak in the theatre but they weren't impressed. That's one person's opinion.

FYI, just so people don't get confused. It's just Tracy Arm, not Tracy's Arm.

There were naturalist presentations each sea day and at Tracy's Arm. It was broadcast on Funnel Vision while we sailed in. They also had special Alaskan-themed activities for the kids. On Tracy Arm day, they had the club and lab up on the Wide World of Sports deck, which was netted off. The kids could go in there and play while the adults watched the scenery. You could grab them out for a quick photo if needed, so that was very convenient. They also had coffee and hot chocolate available on deck 10. They had photographers out taking pictures at Tracy Arm, so make sure you get yours taken! They are gorgeous! They also had characters out on Deck 10 at Tracy Arm all dressed up in Alaskan gear.

I hope some of the returning cruisers are ready to answer questions later today as they make their way home:)!

Someone is posting some pretty professional videos on youtube about the Wonder in Alaska. They are from the family point of view. Very nice!

If link doesn't work go to youtube and search "Disney Wonder Alaska"

Thanks for posting this - I got to see my daughter at work on the day 2 video. She's the Youth Counselor dancing with the kids in the club!!

What does the age of the crowd appear to be?
Several older people? Are there many kids?

Yeah, I know, the waiting is the pits. They probubbly took one look at the Internet rates and decided to wait til they get home where it's no extra charge. Or, they were having way too much fun to bother with the 'Net.

I would say most of them are more concerned with getting home than posting here. Give them a couple of days:)

Actually there have been a few posts (I think on this thread) by people on board. But only 1 or 2.
With that said, I personally think these first cruisers should have been on here every night answering our questions; don't they know we have high expectations of these inagural (sp?) cruisers:confused3 They should be getting home soon and I want answers!!! LOL:rotfl::rotfl:... but seriously;)
