Questions for early Alaskan cruisers!

Does anyone know if D J Mike who was on the Magic went over to the
Wonder ? He does all the music at the pools and many of the games.
D J Mike is from Scotland I think.

Just watching the Wonder come in to port in Ketchikan via the webcams posted earlier in the thread. :cool1:

I don't think so....We were at Animal Kingdom in February and waiting for a CM to tell us what row DD and I should go to on Everest....when all of a sudden someone said I know you...Disney Cruise right....DD ran back from her row and screamed DJ Mike. It was unbelievable he had recognized and remembered us....we didn't have time to talk that much because we had to get on the ride. He was working there...he didn't say how long he would be there. But that is one of the reasons we love DCL the cm really remember you...mind he was on the last 5 cruises we were on I think.

A few more questions for the list:

what kind of onboard tours were available?
Since we will miss lobster night in the rotation due to our excursion, was there lobster available at the BBB table service?
What movies are playing?
Is the temperature in the indoor areas comfortable?

I want to know this also! We will also be out on excursion during dinner and hope to still eat lobster tails in BBB afterwards....

How do you know which night the lobster is on? (Trying to figure out which meal we will miss this time around.)

I think (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that lobster is served on semi-formal night and on the Alaska cruise the special nights are
Formal Night - Night 2
Pirate Night ( no Fireworks)- Night 5
Simi Formal - Night 6

so lobster would be night 6

:thumbsup2 That is the same info that I received when I spoke to a CM at DCL.

Thanks! That is Ketchikan and our shore excursion says 1:15-5:45 and we have the main seating for dinner. Looks like we might miss/be late for lobster night.

I thought of another question to add to the list please....
**How was cell phone service in the Alaska ports? Specifically T-Mobile if anyone had T-Mobile...

**And did DCL state anything about U.S. Direct for the return flights?

**And if you booked DCL transfers for after the cruise, can you still check your luggage in with DCL since it is international and did they check you in for your flight and print your boarding passes if you book their transfers?

Just read on one of the trip report blogs....looks like this might be the only cruise that was going west of Vancouver...fingers crossed! (See Below...)

"The captain came on with his nightly report about 8:00, and
explained (again) that the reason we had come up on the west side of
Vancouver Island on the northbound portion of our cruise rather than
coming up the Inside Passage was because anytime a new ship cruises
Alaska for the first time, it has to be certified (I don't think
that's the word he used, though), that it is able to navigate the
rather narrow passage safely. Our cruise is the only Disney Alaska
cruise that is scheduled to go north the way we did - all of the
others will cruise the Inside Passage both north and south. (Good
news for anyone who is worried about being seasick, since they
should not experience the rough seas that we had on our second day."

Great! :thumbsup2

I'm wondering how they got "certified." Perhaps navigating through Tracy's Arm proved they can handle the much wider passage on the east side of Vancouver? I'm glad they'll be able to go the smoother route now; it just seems strange that the ship which recently sailed through the Panama Canal -- with clearance of less than two feet on each side -- wouldn't have the "street cred" (or sea cred) to handle the east side of Vancouver. just sayin.

That's great to hear! I'm sure it will make those first couple of days *MUCH* nicer for all the future cruises!

Sayhello

Here are my questions:

What's the best spot for viewing during the day when you are sailing by Tracy Arm? We have a verandah cabin on the port side of the ship and I wonder if we will have a good view from there at any point of the day. If not, where would be a good spot to hang out on that day?

Also, what kind of Alaska-related activities where offered on board? Where there talks with naturalists or any presentations about local history and culture?
