I have read that dinner at Whispering Canyon is a lot of fun for kids and includes stick pony races etc. We have ADRs for 5:00 pm. Is that too early for the fun stuff? Also, we are not doing the dining plan. I don't have a big appetite. Could I order from the childs menu? thanks

The "fun stuff" happens all day long ( even breakfast ).. I am a picky eater and I have had no problem ordering off the kids menu ( I get a grilled cheese.. ) but sometimes they charge me an adult meal price, which is fine by me... ps - don't forget to ask for ketchup!:lmao:

Just don't build it up to much to your kids before you go. It really depends on your server. We had a real dud the last time and had none of the fun or antics. My kids were very disappointed, she barely served us, never refilled our skillet let alone do anything fun and yes we asked for ketchup and straws and got exactly that one bottle of ketchup and a straw.

We had a lunch ressie and it wasn't fun at all. Our friends had went a few months before and told us how much fun they had. Nothing for us at all.

We went for dinner last year. I had thought it would be a little more on the wild/crazy side but it wasn't. A few tables did ask for ketchup and there was a small parade but we enjoyed our meal without too much chaos.

We went last year and it really wasn't that fun. The waiter messed with my dh a bit, but from reading about it I think that maybe I expected too much. The food was o.k., we ordered the skillet. I would not go back unless I was staying there(then just maybe).

We have been going to WCC for the last 4 years. I have seen a big decrease in the antics. Not sure why. I don't think it was just our servers either because the entire place seemed to have a lot less going on. They do the pony races but it's once around the restaurant it's now a recorded thing once and hour and not that big of a deal at all.

The food last time was just plain terrible. I am not going back any more. We had 2 bad meals in back to back trips so it's clearly going downhill.

One funny thing was my boyfriends salad has so much dressing on it we called it salad soup and I even took a picture of it!

5pm is a very good time, as that's when they 'sound the dinner bell' and open the restaurant. I actually prefer to be there at opening since the staff is 'fresh' along with the gags. The pony rides go about every hour, so expect on or about 6pm.

To me, the key to having a good time is to just let it happen. Don't go with expectations of what you will see or what will happen based on what you read here. A lot of the fun is impromptu based on your server and the reaction you give to him/her. I remember on our trip last year, one thing we all found completely hysterical was our interaction with one of the assistant servers. He'd come by and give my brother-in-law a 'look' and say "I'm watching you..." so we started to play along with him. Every time he walked past we'd ALL look at him. At one point we started shouting his name. It became quite the game, and loads of fun. But all of that was totally 'unscripted' and we might have been the only family doing that.

The server would always stomp over and shout "HEY!!!" right behind my sister. Had us in stitches. When it was time to leave, we decided to parade out, stomping our feet, hollering "HEY CARLOS (our server) THANKS AND HAVE A GREAT NIGHT!!" We got a lot of stares from other customers, but we were having fun! The manager even looked at us, smiled and waved...he knew we 'got' that having fun there sometimes means doing goofy stuff yourself.
