Questions About Rush Limbaugh

Al Franken wrote a book on him. You can find it here.

It may be a bit left-leaning ;) , but I found it amusing and accurate.

Yes, because this is a man I will take seriously.

I don't listen to Rush Limbaugh...as far as I know he isn't carried on radio stations in Canada, at least not in my area, so I don't have an opportunity. I do sometimes see clips of his programs. Can somebody explain to me what his purpose is? He seems like a complete idiot. Does anybody actually take him seriously or give any merit to his opinions? In seems like he is getting paid to just make outrageous remarks. Do people just listen to him for the entertainment value so they can laugh at his foolishness? Who pays this guy's salary?

He is an intentionally inflammatory blowhard conservative. But if you want to hear worse, listen to Ann Coulter.

The left has their own blowhard inflammtory pseudospokespeople as well, so we don't feel left out. I don't listen to them because I think for the few points they make they make they make people so angry they are not willing to look at situations with open eyes. They promote us verses them and the mindset that working together is a bad thing.

I listen to Thom Hartman, he is a little to left for my taste and he is extremenly pro union, which I am not, but in general he is pretty respectful about any subject matter . I enjoy it when he has conservative callers. He speaks to them respectfully and encourages intelligent discourse. If caller makes wild statements from either side he does not instantly dismiss, he asks for back up information and is able to cite many sources to back up his point of view. He has a pretty large viewership (for liberal talk radio anyway) and I am happy that people are drawn to his non confrontational and intelligence based style.

I cannot see myself ever listening to any blowhard, no matter how much I agreed with them. They just lower the quality of content. And frankly are usually just disrespectful.

I view Rush Limbaugh the same as Jon Stuart, as they are both entertainers, working as political commentators. They are not to be taken seriously, even though from time to time when they aren't being outlandish, they speak nuggets of truth.

I watch Jon Stewart religiously, followed by Stephen Colbert. I have never seen or heard Rush Limbaugh except in clips, so I can't really compare. What I will say is there seems to be more truth on The Daily Show and the Colbert Report than some would like to admit. When they make fun of the hypocrisy of a politician, for example, they at least provide clips of the politician making his/her hypocritical statements.

He is incredibly mean spirited. He physically made me sick with his "imitation" of Michael J. Fox.

He also was addicted to precription pain killers - I guess that's not as funny as making fun of someone who has Parkinson's disease.

So why are ALL Conservatives considered to be followers of Limbaugh but ALL Liberals are not considered to be followers of their "blowhards"?

Actually it's about 99% truth. People don't like his delivery, it can be abbrasive. But that's the intentional part, for the entertainment value. And that value is huge, based on the revenues for his show.

Most left wing kooks get their panties in a bunch because he is so successful and their left wing posers are complete failures in the medium. Very little of what he says is innacurate.

::yes::

I have never listened to Rush's show. The only time I've really heard him is when he is guesting on someone else's show. I've also certainly read various quotes from him. I have to say that I concur that he is very abrasive, but I do agree with much of what he says. His delivery is rather shocking (but it apparently works), but many of us agree with much of the message itself.

bombastic
1. (of a person, their language or writing) Pompous or overly wordy.
2. High-sounding but with little meaning.
3. (archaic) Inflated, overfilled.

Yeah that is a good word for Rush:thumbsup2

Its a little difficult to show video clips on radio. Rush does provide audio clips to "back up his hypocrisy" (as you say).

DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT LISTEN TO RUSH NOW BECAUSE HE IRRITATES ME, BUT I HAVE IN THE PAST. HE IS FURTHER TO THE RIGHT FOR MY LIKING.

I am sure that he might have some good points occasionally, but wouldn't people grow tired of trying to pull the grain of truth from the pile of bull ****? Why would Conservatives embrace somebody like that as their mouthpiece? Doesn't he cause more harm than good for their cause?

The clip I saw last night was particularly outrageous and inflammatory. I can't believe anybody can take him seriously.

You describe Chris Matthews beautifully, except he is embraced by Democrats and actually calls himself a journalist.

Conservatives understand that Rush is giving political commentary, sometimes funny, sometimes inflammatory, but we GET that it's simply commentary. Dems should be more worried about Main Stream Media, which is equally full of Bull, equally outrageous, equally partisan, and HUGELY harmful...but passes itself off as Journalism, thereby having the presumption of truth.

How dare Dems be offended by partisan commentary. Obama is sitting where he is today because of MSM's outrageous double-standard and inflammatory bias.
IMO

So why are ALL Conservatives considered to be followers of Limbaugh but ALL Liberals are not considered to be followers of their "blowhards"?

Not all conservatives-just the ones who come here spouting his and Hannitys' talking points like zombies and think that no one else listens.:lmao:

He is quite a hypocrite. He supported throwing all drug addicts in jail and called them maggots, then surprise surprise he was a drug addict. He decries attacks against traditional family values but has been married at least 4 times. I'm not convinced he actually believes half of what he says, so much has been shown to be flat out untrue, but he continues to harp away because he is paid so handsomely for it.

Not all Conservatives listen to him, so he's really not a "mouthpiece" for Conservatives. Oddly enough, we can be sold separately and have our own opinions.

You seem to be taking this very personally...I'm not sure why. I am asking more about him as his program is not carried here.

I saw a clip of Rush Limbaugh last night that I thought was outrageous and crossed more than a few lines and based on what I saw I find it hard to believe that anyone, of any political affiliation, could find him entertaining. I guess I just would find it hard to embrace the message if I found the messenger to be offensive.

He's sort of the Keith Olberman of the conservative circuit. Lots of bluster, ranting, and show boating. Again, a lot like MSNBC's darling.

This conservative seldom listens to anything he has to say. When I see him on a show like Hannity's, I generally have to filter what he says. If he makes 100 statements, not even half of them will I agree with. And if I do agree I have to think carefully and get past his way of saying the statment.

Double standard ladies and gentlemen. You have your beloved Keith, Rachel and Chris among many others. Do you agree with everything they say? Because if you do, I find you a bit of a bombastic lover.

How do you know that they listen to them and that they don't just have conservative ideas and values?? You're assuming that because a poster supports the same viewpoint that they got it from Rush or Hannity. I don't normally listen to talk radio, I'm a classic rock fan. Even so, I would guess that Rush and Hannity's opinion on Pres. Obama possibly adding even MORE money to the financial bailout would probably be the same as mine.

Fair enough. And again, there are offensive messengers on both sides of the issues.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THIS STATEMENT.

Actually you asked why Conservatives accept Rush as a mouthpiece and someone replied that they don't.

Rush, while not my style, has merit. His delivery isn't my piece of cake but it is commentary, not main stream media and pretty much optional to listen to. I much prefer to listen to Glenn Beck.

I used to watch Rush's tv show to see how long it would take for me to get pissed off. Usually under 5 minutes, conservative views aside, he has said some things about women that really don't sit well with me.

My dad loves him though. If I say something like "he started his show with little girls playing a mall shopping game because all women are born to shop in malls apparently", Dad says, oh, he doesn't mean that stuff. He thinks Rush does all of that sort of thing for ratings and comedy but agrees with his conservative viewpoint.
