Questions About Rush Limbaugh

You seem to be taking this very personally...I'm not sure why. I am asking more about him as his program is not carried here.

I saw a clip of Rush Limbaugh last night that I thought was outrageous and crossed more than a few lines and based on what I saw I find it hard to believe that anyone, of any political affiliation, could find him entertaining. I guess I just would find it hard to embrace the message if I found the messenger to be offensive.

I'm simply illustrating what is a double standard regarding Conservative and Liberal "blowhards".

Not all conservatives-just the ones who come here spouting his and Hannitys' talking points like zombies and think that no one else listens.:lmao:

:thumbsup2

Exactly! On Monday Rush was talking about "What to say when a liberal asks you if you WANT Obama to fail"; Rush then gave four or five points ("I WANT Obama to FAIL to make our wonderful country a Socialist paradise", etc).

That same evening someone started the same topic on this board. Sure enough, within a few posts some person lists all of Rush's points, without giving credit to Rush. Mildly irritating.

I find it interesting that Rush and Howard Stern were born on the exact same day. It is always funny when someone calls in to Howard to mention that fact, which sets Howard off on truly funny rants (once a caller mentioned this coincidence to Rush, who just laughed it off).

How do you know that they listen to them and that they don't just have conservative ideas and values?? You're assuming that because a poster supports the same viewpoint that they got it from Rush or Hannity. I don't normally listen to talk radio, I'm a classic rock fan. Even so, I would guess that Rush and Hannity's opinion on Pres. Obama possibly adding even MORE money to the financial bailout would probably be the same as mine.
Bolded by me.. that is the question of the day....

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THIS STATEMENT.

I know you do!

But I fear someone will soon be rushing in to tell me how wrong I am. That my above mentioned liberal tv personalities are journalists but that Rush is merely a windbag who has nothing of merit to offer.

But I stand by my statement. We got ours, they got theirs! Ahh, as my mom used to say, how boring would life be if we all liked the same things!

You describe Chris Matthews beautifully, except he is embraced by Democrats and actually calls himself a journalist.

Conservatives understand that Rush is giving political commentary, sometimes funny, sometimes inflammatory, but we GET that it's simply commentary. Dems should be more worried about Main Stream Media, which is equally full of Bull, equally outrageous, equally partisan, and HUGELY harmful...but passes itself off as Journalism, thereby having the presumption of truth.

How dare Dems be offended by partisan commentary. Obama is sitting where he is today because of MSM's outrageous double-standard and inflammatory bias.
IMO

Because they quote Rush and Hannity word for word:rolleyes: .

Didn't say it was you-but yet you felt the need to tell me your listening choices....hmmmm:scratchin

Double standard ladies and gentlemen. You have your beloved Keith, Rachel and Chris among many others. Do you agree with everything they say? Because if you do, I find you a bit of a bombastic lover.

Who is this "you" you speak of? This is not a political thread. This is not about Republicans or Democrats. It is a thread about Rush Limbaugh. It has nothing to do with any of the other pundits from either side that have been mentioned. I don't even know who most of them are.

I saw a clip I found offensive on many levels, and I wondered who would actually pay this man to be on the radio. If I was his boss I would worry about being sued. Now I know that he is not employed by anyone, so he is free to say and do as he wishes. Fine. Good for him.

Because, as we all know, two or more people cannot possible share the same opinion, or come to the same conclusion independently.

I don't listen to Rush Limbaugh...as far as I know he isn't carried on radio stations in Canada, at least not in my area, so I don't have an opportunity. I do sometimes see clips of his programs. Can somebody explain to me what his purpose is? He seems like a complete idiot. Does anybody actually take him seriously or give any merit to his opinions? In seems like he is getting paid to just make outrageous remarks. Do people just listen to him for the entertainment value so they can laugh at his foolishness? Who pays this guy's salary?

Here's an idea Faye...how about you get on the internet and try to listen to his show so you can form your OWN opinion about him. What a novel concept !
The refrain of "I've never even heard of him, but others tell me he is bad" says a lot the person saying it.

This folks, is possibly the next Senator from Minnesota and speaks volumes.

People can't change? :confused3

That's the beauty of this country. Comedian one day, Senator the next.

Actor on Love Boat - representative next.

Pop Singer one day - representative next.

Movie Star - President next.

Astronaut one day - Senator next.

Can any one guess who these examples are?

I've seen a couple of posts comparing Rush to Jon Stewart...can I just point out that The Daily Show is on Comedy Central. I understand that Rush is meant to be an entertainer, but he is not meant to be a comedian. He believes what he says and more importantly he wants others to believe the same thing. Jon Stewart is really more of a dofus. :rotfl: Although, he is an adorable dofus.

I would also say that, while The Daily Show leans to the left, they make fun of the left too. No one is safe on that show.

I agree. Listen to Rush. He is very well paid for a reason: he is entertaining, he has a very large audience, and companies pay good money to advertise on his show. I may not agree with all he says (and, like I said, he can be surprisingly mean-spirited), but by gosh he often gets me thinking, and he often makes me laugh.

I told you because you seem to have an unusual interest in me, I was certain you'd want to know since you seem to single me out on every thread we're on together! :rotfl:

When is a comedian NOT an entertainer? :confused3

There is no double standard on this thread. The first response to the OP said Limbaugh was Conservative, which led me to ask why Conservatives (any convservative, not necessarily ALL conservatives) would identify with him as he seems to be very abrasive and outrageous.

This has nothing to do with any other political pundit, journalist or entertainer.

I used to watch Rush's tv show to see how long it would take for me to get pissed off. Usually under 5 minutes, conservative views aside, he has said some things about women that really don't sit well with me.

My dad loves him though. If I say something like "he started his show with little girls playing a mall shopping game because all women are born to shop in malls apparently", Dad says, oh, he doesn't mean that stuff. He thinks Rush does all of that sort of thing for ratings and comedy but agrees with his conservative viewpoint.

An entertainer exploits a stereotype for entertainment purposes?? SHOCK!! HORROR!! Don't watch Dave Chappelle. You might just go into political correctness convulsions.

Okay, so by your above bolded comment, Rush (who I seem to be getting from you that you find him stupid and not worth much) is the only person on this planet who is smart enough to come up with a particular idea on why "some" might want President Obama to fail. Could it be that some of those posters just came up with their ideas on their own? Or are conservatives just so damn stupid that only one person (Rush) would have that idea?

Haven't you ever posted on a liberal thread something you thought, felt, believed, came up with, and then maybe seen somebody say "hey Keith Olberman said that same thing". Or I saw democratic Senator So and So say that same stament!

Do liberals, all umpteen million of them have unique ideas? Or do you just all get them from one source and then copy cat those ideas and statements?

The very idea that after 8 LONG years of liberals bashing Bush for everything he said and did, that many liberals now suddenly can't believe that conservatives might do the very same thing! Who'd have ever thought this might happen?

If I make a statement about how I feel as a conservative I can almost guarantee I didn't copy it from Rush Limbaugh. Other than watching him for about one minute on Hannity last night, I haven't seen or heard from the man in months. Cause guess what! He gets on my nerves. And guess what! He gets on the nerves of most of my conservative friends too. So don't give Rush too much credit for setting the tone of conservative thought process.

I find it hilarious that Stern and Limbaugh were born on the same day! God knows they were cut out of the same shock jock piece of cloth.

I'm a liberal. I listen to him. Mostly because I love talk radio. His program comes on mid-day. Some days I even find myself agreeing with, MOST days – not so much. Many of his opinions are so peripheral in thought its hard to imagine that this is a grown man. Everything he represents is a lie. Rush upholds "family values" in the face of "liberal" immorality. Rush has been married and divorced three times. So much for Mr. Sanctity-of-Marriage. He attacks drug users, drug dealers, and the "liberal" judges who do not sentence users and dealers to long prison terms. Rush was addicted to oxycontin and obtained them illegal. He was caught and stayed out of jail only because of his wealth and his lawyers. Anyone other than Rush would have gone to jail long ago. Rush wraps himself in the flag and turns loose his attack dogs on anyone who is not a "patriot" -- by his definition of patriotism. Rush has never served a day in uniform. In fact, when he became eligible for the draft during the Vietnam War, Rush was able to gain a draft deferment through his family doctor's certification. He is a joke, IMO, with a BIG audience.

Read what I have written on this very thread, and you will quickly see that your first sentence is not valid. Hence I stopped reading.
