my wife and i are planning a trip to disney for january 14-19. It will be the 2 of us, our 2 children (3 and an infant) and my 2 sisters. i have started considering renting points so we can call share a 2 bedroom suite. i think that this may be cheaper then getting 2 rooms. aproximitly, how many points would we need to do this? i realize that different resort may be more or less. i am trying to get an idea of what it would cost.

also, can i still get the dining plan and how would it be to add tickets? i am obviously new to the DVC point renting thing and while i have tried to find these answers, i figured it would be easier to ask. Any help would be appreciated.

There is a point calculator if you click on DVC Point Charts at the top of the page. In January a 2 bedroom at Old Key West would be 110 points for a Sunday to Friday stay. Saratoga Springs 135 points, and VWL, BCV, and preferred view Boardwalk would be 150 points. Point cost is usually $10-12 per point. No tax or other fees. You can get the dining plan when staying on members points and also use the Magical Express from the airport. The member you rent from will call Member Services for you to arrange these if you are interested. The park tickets can be purchased here on the DIS boards, a ticket broker, or directly from Disney.

If you rent a two bedroom instead of two regular hotel rooms you will also have a kitchen, living/dining room, and laundry in your unit. You will not get daily maid service.

Hope this helps. Whatever you decide I hope you have a wonderful vacation!

The above post gives great information. You should also realize that you are quite late in the game in looking to rent--only 2 months out--and thus availability could be an issue. Yes, January is a lower attendance time of year, but that often means higher attendance for DVC'ers. And since there are not that many 2 BRs, it could be a issue. Additionally, since you are so close to your travel dates, you will likely have to pay the member in full and there will be little to no opportunity for a refund should you have to cancel your trip at the last minute (as the member's points will go into a holding account, etc. if is is too close to the travel date).

Also, please read the Sticky on the Rent/Trade board that talks about the trust factor involved in renting points, etc.

Hope this helps and have a wonderful vacation!

Here's the Vacation Planner for your particular vacation dates. It shows the point requirements for each Resort/Villa combination possible.
