I've never done it before, can anyone give me suggestions on the best places to go, and anything else you could advise me with?

My car has an allergic reaction to going outside the city limits. It finds something that hasn't broke yet and breaks it.

What size are you wanting to rent???
Airports always seem to have more BS added to their prices....

I know many people just use price line, I have only used them for hotels, but when we rented a car at disney this years I used the mousesavers site code and got a really good price!

check with your credit card, too, before you rent. Our Amex will cover like insurance, but if you sign for the rental companies insurance it will negate it.

and check your own insurance policy. sometimes they cover rentals.

shep, not a big car or anything. Just big enough for me and my youngest to go up north a little bit, for overnight.

I really should get a convertible. ;) Do they rent mustang convertibles???

Nah, I just need something nice and comfy and something that I don't have to coax to get moving.

Regardless of who you rent from, don't let them sell you their optional insurance on the car. Its a complete rip off. It is VERY expensive and the odds are that your credit card company will insure you anyway. Also, the insurance you carry on your own car will probably cover the rental as well.

Laurie, we rented a car for the 1st time when we went to Vegas last month. I was really nervous about renting a car but it turned out to be a breeze!! We simply called our insurance AAA and they hooked us up with Hertz. Ended up getting an Impala.....one sweet car!!:D

Serena you could get more responses over on the transpo board:D Good advice on the up-charges--watch out for 'em.

Definitely avoid airport locations if you can help it (unless you can get a very good deal on the rate)...they always tack on extra airport concession charges that other locations aren't required to charge.

Also, I've never used them before, but I have friends who work there and others who've used them, but Enterprise will pick you up and take you there to get your car.

We used Enterprise a few times and were very happy with them. The only down side is the offices I dealt with close at noon on Saturday. You can do most rentals on line too.
