Questions about Disney Chase Visa

I am considering applying for the Disney Rewards Visa, the premier card.
Does anyone have any personal tips/experiences on this? I cringe at applying for an additional credit card, but after thoroughly reading the card website, it appears that if I stick with a strict plan: only purchase groceries and put restaurant checks on the card, it could really earn me some points.

I should note: I live in Manhattan, where grocery prices are absorbent- the other day I was at Whole Foods, came home with 2 (full) paper grocery bags- my bill was $97! :scared1: Crazy, I know. And of course, restaurants are nuts as well. Where I work, a steak (with no sides) is $51. Yes. That's what I said. $51!
Gas doesn't really apply to me, my husband charges that to his business.
So really I'd be looking to put my groceries and dining charges on the card- and of course all my Disney purchases.

However, if I can earn $1-$2 towards Disney, it's REALLY worth it for me, even with the $49 annual fee. I think???

I am new to the Budget Area of the boards. Any pointers and tips on the credit card would be greatly appreciated. :worship:

If you're looking into a rewards card, I wouldn't look at one that limits your rewards to only Disney purchase's. Also just to recoup the annual you will need to spend $2500 or get a special offer for the first purchase. I would look into an every purchase card that rewards cash with no annual fee. Cap1, AMEX blue or Discover... Just my $.02

I got the Disney Visa card without the fee for the $200 signup bonus. I do not like to pay annual fees on credit cards. I use the card for everyday purchases and get 1 percent back. It had been 5 years between trips when we went in November so we had over $1,000 on in rewards points that we used for meals in Disney.

I have the premiere Disney Visa, upgraded from the free one. I did the math, and with what I spend on gas a year, I get the annual fee back in Disney dollars in 3-5 months. And that's not including what I spend at restaurants or groceries. My other rewards card generally only gives me 1%.

If you are set on one of the Disney rewards cards, the math is quite simple. If you will spend at least $4,900 in a year on gas, grocery, restaurants, and Disney combined, then the annual fee on the Premier card is worth it. If not, stick to the free card.

I would highly recommend the Amex Blue Preferred. Annual fee is $75. You get 6% back on groceries up to $6,000. Amex also has a ton of offers. Since November, I've saved $200 using offers ($5 off $30 of gas, $25 off $100 at Amazon, etc.). Not sure if they're offering anything right now, but when I got it about a year ago I got a $200 credit.

I am too cheap to pay and upgrade to the premium one. I probably should though. I use the regular Disney Visa. I charge almost everything and anything I can charge (cell phone bill, homeowners & car insurance, etc.). I use my rewards - estimated about $500 a year toward my dues on my DVC.

We have the premier visa. We've only had it since Nov and already have $248 in reward dollars. We use this card like our checking account. I charge everything and pay on it weekly so we do not get charged interest. It has worked well for us so far. Plus there are little benefits like the free meet and greet photo, discounts at certain restaurants in Disney World. It's a decent card if you're a disney junkie lol. :)

We upgraded to the premium and have never looked back!

Going to WDW in Nov. and aren't paying a penny for our trip. We scored FD, but the entire trip (minus air) is being paid for with our accrued points. And before anyone asks, the points have only been tallying up since 2011 (our last trip).

You really do need to stick to a plan though. The interest is killer on it, so we only charge what we can pay off every month. If you roll a balance over, even a little bit, you're toast.

Ok, thanks to all for your pointers.

On their site they aren't offering the $200 signup. Just a measly $100 on the premier card (that costs $49).

And I don't think I would spend 5K in groceries a year. And that would only cover the cost of the card anyway, which is useless.

I don't know. I'll have to think about this further.

Sent you a PM.

Not disputing what you are saying but I would go one step farther and say to get the benefit of the premiere card you need to spend $5k in Restaurants, Grocery, Gas & Disney. You can already get the 1% in a no-fee card.

I just got the Disney Rewards card (not the premiere). I did it through a referral offer my mom gave me from her card. I'm getting ready to start buying park tickets and booking my trip. I'm going to do it all on the card, so that I can get the $200 rewards and $50 to my mom's account. She is giving us all of her rewards as well so the kids can have spending money on the trip. If I weren't doing the trip, I wouldn't do it. However, I can't pass up getting reward dollars I can use on the trip among the other perks.
