Question Regarding Resort Costs

This may be a dumb question, but...

Historically, I've purchased hotels through Dreams Unlimited or the Disney Website directly, and I've always considered going to the deluxe resorts. They've always been expensive, but about what I'd expect them to be...

However, looking at upcoming weekends, I'm seeing rates well over $1,000 PER NIGHT at multiple resorts. At the Polynesian, I see OVER $2000 per night! (For example: I'm looking for 2 adults, no kids, all resorts checking in 7/27 and leaving on 7/30.)

Is this correct? Am I just looking in the wrong place to make deluxe reservations? How does one get a deal on, say, the Polynesian?

Is the website just being dumb or something?

Probably at this point, the available rooms are the expensive rates you're seeing. Poly basic runs $533 - $762. Maybe all that's left is bungalows? http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/disney-rates-deluxe-2017.htm#poly

I'm having trouble getting availability to come up at all, but the issue is this close to when you are wanting to travel, there are very few rooms left available. The high rates you are seeing are likely because the only rooms left are something like club level theme park view.

My vote is for website being dumb. I saw the same thing you saw, but then when I clicked on the Poly and selected room only, I could see a standard view for an average of $474/night.
