Question re. yard sale pricing

In our garage sale last weekend, I sold a Coach purse and the matching wallet. They were outlet styles, and were VERY well worn, not in new-looking condition at all, so I didn't really know what to put on them. I ended up selling the purse for $8 and the wallet for $6. Considering I had gotten almost 2 years' use out of them, I felt like anything I got back was a bonus.

Wellll, thank you! You just saved me some time Saturday morning. I have one worn Coach bag so $8-10 would be fine, but I have one that was carried once. I hated the way the bag closed and it drove me nuts having to open and close it in such an awkward movement. Someone else who isn't in and out of their bag as often wouldn't notice. But I'm not selling it for $8. :)

I also have two Dooneys and two Kate Spades. I imagine most people would think the KS were fake, since they are duplicated all the time.

Well I didn't mean to discourage you...you might as well put them out, you never know until you try :goodvibes

The lady that bought the purse and wallet didn't bat an eye at my pricing, so maybe I went too low! I just couldn't imagine paying much myself for a worn out purse so that's why I only put $8 on it.

Good information never discourages! I was thinking that if, on the better ones, I did put $50 FIRM and waited two hours, what's the worst that could happen besides getting to know my neighbors more, right?

Last summer we had a 50th anniversary party for my parents. I picked up tons of nice crystal champagne glasses at garage sales beforehand, paying 50 cents/glass. Some were in complete sets of 12. I know, not what you wanted to hear :sad2:

doesn't upset me too much. I've got tons of crystal goblets, glasses, dishes etc all in plastic totes in my basement. Most of the stuff hasn't seen the light of day in 18 years (since we boxed it up to move)
So if I only get enough to pay for the space ($15) bucks it will be worth it.

I've never had any luck selling adult clothes at my yard sales, even nice business suits. I've had really great luck selling my kids' clothing though!

I've seen designer handbags priced at $30 still be there late Saturday afternoon. But you will probably get a good chance to know your neighbors, funny stuff always go on between our neighbors during garage sale season. We have a lot of good memories :cool1:

Obviously the word "designer" is a relevant term but at this time of the year we go to a hundred or more houses every weekend and spotting a designer handbag is extremely rare. We will see the ocassional vintage Coach or D&B, and I have bought several, but we've never seen a good high end bag that wasn't either in horrible condition or fake. Now if someone asks if you are looking for something in particular and you mention brands of bags they may have something inside but it's not going to be a giveaway.

I'm sure there will be the random idiot who puts mom's $2000 Chanel bag out on the table because they don't know any better but the odds of you being in the same place at the same time this bit of idiocy occurs are pretty slim. We look instead for unusual looks or colors that match certain outfits rather than the name. We've managed to find some gorgeous stuff over the years using this method.

As for clothes, here is a lady who is having a yard sale down the road from us starting tomorrow:

If you follow her link to pics you will see some prices on the clothes. This lady is going to have a long, dissapointing weekend if the prices on those outfits are what she expects to get.
