Question on the Mousefest Event

Don't worry Dave, I have a feeling that this won't be the last big cool party the podcast crew throw, yeah :thumbsup2 ! Hope to see you at the next one (meaning I hope to be at the next one too ;) !) and good for you for not putting your family in major hock for the sake of a party, however cool it's going to be :flower3:.
Oh thanks Kristina. That makes me feel good. BTW, I like your tag. I'm Swedish, but don't know anything about Sweden really.

I did mean to make you feel better but I guess there was to much ooh cool party and the like in my post, sorry about that! My intentions were good, honest!

Podcast crew:

Is there any chance that since the announcement of this big event was so publicized (and hinted and teased about relentlessly!) for days, specifically to the Podcast listeners and Podcast forum regulars, that the list on Launchpad11B's thread here http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1989800 could become an official waiting list for first dibs??

This is a really neat thing you are doing, and we are all very excited and grateful. And like I have said elsewhere, I am thrilled that the DIS is participating at all in Mousefest :).

But I must say that it will be very disappointing to those of us who waited and waited for the promised announcement, and then waited for the sign-up sheet to appear yesterday (which we have since found out could be anytime between now and next week), if we are at work or away from our computers when the sign-up list finally does appear. It is one thing if Dreams clients fill up each and every spot and we miss out because of that. It's a whole different story, though, if some of us here miss out on signing up simply because we can't or won't just sit at our computers all day hitting "refresh".

The very last thing any of us want to do is disappoint anyone. I feel that we have proven that time and time again.

This event comes at an enormous cost, both in dollars and time spent planning, organizing and executing details. Transportation back to your place of lodging is a logistical nightmare in and of itself.

Please understand that we would love to open this event to one and all, but the cost to the DIS is "per head."

As for the hinting and teasing ...I apologize that you feel it was relentless. We feel that we have to publicize the event prior to details being announced so that folks can make travel plans. If we waited until all details were finalized there would be criticism that we didnt give enough lead time. While we still do not have details nailed down, you can imagine the response to the podcast cruise if we waited to announce it until all details were finalized. Very few people would attend.

I have also explained why we dont pre-announce our plans. Too many variables can change until contracts are signed. Announcing that we were having an event at TSM prior and then having to pull back and tell our listeners that we have to do something else would be very disappointing.

In an effort to make this fair to everyone, a new sign up list will be posted. The space will be allotted on a "first come, first served" basis, much the way any event is handled. Suggesting that because you knew this event was coming should put you ahead is like suggesting that hearing advance advertising and promotion prior to tickets being available would somehow get you better seats at a concert.

We will post in advance, when the sign up list will become active.

We are doing our very best to insure that as few are disappointed as possible. This includes increasing the number of spaces available, thereby increasing the cost.

I hope I have explained this well.

Kevin

I'm hoping there's lots of room as well. But, I can also well imagine the logistical nightmare you guys are going through right now. I was thinking about this and wondered if there is a way you could charge a small amount to get in to the party. I know that when other 'groups' do something like this, they do charge something to gain entrance. It does alleviate a lot of those who sign-up, with great intentions but then find they can't attend. But, since I have no idea what the 'ins and outs' of the contract are, I have no idea if that is even feasible.

While I'm hoping that DU booked a ton of rooms for MF, I'm also hoping that there aren't so many that those who are there, but not via DU, will also be able to get in. Anyone know if there are still less expensive rooms even available at that time?? Just curious.

Change of plans....to accomodate everyone we are changing the venue - we're going to rent out T-Rex Cafe instead. There will be an additional charge for earplugs.

:rotfl2:

Thank you for the explanation. I didn't realize that you were going to announce ahead of time when the sign-up list would be available. I assume that will be a day or a few days in advance. Since we will all know exactly when we can start to sign up, that should prevent most of us here from missing the opportunity to do so, or from having to constantly monitor our computers.

I know that your intention in planning this event is for fun and for a sense of community, and is for anyone attending Mousfest. And everyone is so excited and truly grateful. But I also assume that you know that there is the potential for hurt feelings since, as far as I can tell, you have primarily and very enthusiastically promoted it so far to the podcast community and posters on the podcast forum, a group which is quite loyal, and since it is relatively small, still has sort of a close-knit, inclusive, personal feel to it. Much like the DIS as a whole had back in the late 1990s/early 2000s.

Thanks John!! Now I gotta clean the computer monitor.....

How do you propose we handle this and insure that no one's "feelings get hurt"?

Please keep in mind that this event carries no cost to the attendees, but does involve a huge cost to the folks throwing the party.

Also, please keep in mind that we are trying to make sure that everyone has a way to get back to their lodging, which also carries a huge cost as Disney is not providing it.

Please keep in mind that many, many, many more people have expressed interest in attending than there is allotted space. How would you propose we decide which podcast listeners get first crack at the list? What would you tell the person that asks if they can bring 15 people?

I will apologize upfront to anyone who's feelings are hurt, but this is a "first come, first served" list.

Maybe it would be better to just post the sign up and let those that find it first take the available spots.

Or maybe we should have a lottery for the available places.

Again....how do you propose we handle this to insure no one's feelings get hurt?

Hmmm - interesting....could be a fun "game" with an awesome reward!!

I think it's great that you guys are doing something like this at NO cost!! I am also a little disappointed in the whining about the sign-ups..... If I can't sign-up at least I'll still be in Disney - and if I can sign up then it is a bonus!!

Thanks for all you do!!

We'll walk to/from BWV. :teeth:

Not your responsibility.

Ex-ACT -ly!!! :thumbsup2

I understand what Kevin is saying here.

This is not a money making opportunity for them. It is very expensive and they are being very generous. I am thinking about chaning my plans so that I can be there, but I just want to meet with the podcasters. I went to the May meet and it was fun just pulling up a chair and talking with them.

I would love to go, but there is a limited number, and I understand that. I will try to sign up, but if I don't get in, it's okay.

Kevin, are you guys going to be at the Beach Club earlier in the day?

Yes - we are going to participate in the Mega Mouse Meet earlier that day at the Yacht & Beach Club Convention Center.

If you are going please come by our table and say hi!!!

Will do. I'll be so pleased to see you there.

There is no way. However, there is a list of 80-something people (counting guests) so far on Launchpad's thread who are hoping to get in, probably because they are your fans and would like to spend time with you and the other members of the podcast crew. Some of them probably waited with bated-breath for the much-awaited announcement.

I am sure some Mousefest people who never heard of you will come to the meet. But those people who have never heard of you? Many of them will simply be there for free food and to ride Toy Story Mania as many times as they can. And that's fine. That's what the event is for, too.

And again, you are right. There is no way that some people will not be let down. I was not arguing that there should be no cost limits or capacity limits. I was just puzzled by why the event has been so promoted on this particular forum, whose members seem particularly near and dear to the hearts of you guys. It is sort of like a fan club. And sometimes fan club members do get concert tickets early. The waiting list thing was merely a suggestion.

Kevin/John, please correct me if i'm wrong...

The invites will go to those who have booked with DU for the night of Dec 13th first, right? And then once you've closed that one off, then the sign up sheet will be opened up for those in the podcast forum, right? And once you've exhausted that option...and assuming there's still space left...will it be opened to the general Mousefest population?

Just wondered if that's how you guys were planning to do it...that's all! :)
