We are thinking of adding points at Vero to take advantage of the 11 month booking window to stay in a beach cottage. Does anyone have experience in booking the beach cottages right at the 11 month window? If I'm up calling bright and early on the first day available will we have a good chance at getting a cottage or is it still pretty iffy?

We added on at Vero for that very reason.

If you call at 11 months - no one else would have had opportunity to book "before you" - so your chances should be EXCELLENT!

If you are calling for a reservation during high season, you "may" want to call and book "day by day."

On the other hand, there have been reports of people booking the beach cottages at 7 months during less busy times...

Enjoy the beach cottage - we've got one for Labor Day weekend - can't wait!! (We had one for Labor Day last year, as well, but Mother Nature had other plans...)

We were thinking about adding on at Vero Beach for this exact same reason - do you have to add on enough points to cover your stay or if we just added on a small portion of points at VB (home resort is SSR), would we still be able to take advantage of the 11 month booking window but use all of our points from both "contracts"?

Thanks for the help!

Yes and no.

You can not use "non-VB" points to secure a VB reservation outside of the 7-month window.

But what you "can" do is "borrow" from the VB points in the "next" use-year to secure the reservation.

Essentially, you can have 3 years of points to use at one time - previous year (banked), current year, and future year (borrowed.)

So you wouldn't have to necessarily purchase, say, 150 points for your "150 point reservation." You could purchase 50.

Don't forget, though. There is always that provision in our contract that allows for re-allocation of points at any time - though it's only happened once in the history of DVC. (at OKW) If you purchase EXACTLY the number of points you need - you could potentially come up short if they were to exercise this option. Also - if you're travelling during those times of the year when points can vary, i.e. Spring Break, then your point needs could change from year to year.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys! Now I have a reason to check the resales board 5 times a day instead of just doing it for fun!
