(Not picking on you Diane, your comment was just a convenient one to quote.

I totally agree with the whole "buy where you want to stay" routine, but the disclaimer that I usually add is "if you want to stay at one resort the majority of the time."
Notice that only 10% of the SSR owners that responded indicated that they have a strong preference for another single DVC resort. Compare that to the 19% of VWL owners who wished they owned elsewhere and even 15% of BCV owners.
It's easy to point to the 60+ percent of respondants who said that they don't necessarily want to use their Home resort all the time. But where should those people buy if not SSR? Answer: they have no strong preference for any resort, so it doesn't matter a bit.
90% of SSR owners either want to stay at their Home resort or (and this is the key) are flexible in their wants and needs.
"BCV is full for those dates...no problem, give me a room at SSR."
"Nothing at VWL...sure, I'll take BWV."
These resort occupancy / booking debates have been going on for years. But what has yet to materialize in ANY way, shape or form is an overwhelming dissatisfaction over what we have TODAY. We can debate the future with about as much accuracy as the ozone layer or global warming.
To their credit, I think that DVC members--at least those who frequent this board--are a realistic bunch. I have never (and I mean "never"--at least in my 18 mos as a member) witnessed a member figuratively stomping his feet and complaining that he is consistently closed-out of the resort or room type he really wants. Booking at 7 months WORKS. Going on the waitlist WORKS.
Yes, I agree it will get "tougher" (whatever that really means) to get some rooms at some resorts for some dates. The real question is whether any of us will know enough to recognize the difference, or to even care that we have to stay elsewhere.

Good discussion-provoking poll, dianeschlicht!
