Question for those who just purchased SSR

How do you plan to use most of your SSR points?

  • Mostly use at SSR

  • plan to use at ALL DVC locations

  • mostly at OKW to save points

  • mostly at BCV because that's where I wanted to buy

  • mostly at BWV for location

  • mostly at VWL for all of the above

I feel that no matter WHERE the current or future DVC resorts are, it is going to become more and more important to have your home resort be where you will stay the most.

(Not picking on you Diane, your comment was just a convenient one to quote. :) )

I totally agree with the whole "buy where you want to stay" routine, but the disclaimer that I usually add is "if you want to stay at one resort the majority of the time."

Notice that only 10% of the SSR owners that responded indicated that they have a strong preference for another single DVC resort. Compare that to the 19% of VWL owners who wished they owned elsewhere and even 15% of BCV owners.

It's easy to point to the 60+ percent of respondants who said that they don't necessarily want to use their Home resort all the time. But where should those people buy if not SSR? Answer: they have no strong preference for any resort, so it doesn't matter a bit.

90% of SSR owners either want to stay at their Home resort or (and this is the key) are flexible in their wants and needs.

"BCV is full for those dates...no problem, give me a room at SSR."

"Nothing at VWL...sure, I'll take BWV."

These resort occupancy / booking debates have been going on for years. But what has yet to materialize in ANY way, shape or form is an overwhelming dissatisfaction over what we have TODAY. We can debate the future with about as much accuracy as the ozone layer or global warming.

To their credit, I think that DVC members--at least those who frequent this board--are a realistic bunch. I have never (and I mean "never"--at least in my 18 mos as a member) witnessed a member figuratively stomping his feet and complaining that he is consistently closed-out of the resort or room type he really wants. Booking at 7 months WORKS. Going on the waitlist WORKS.

Yes, I agree it will get "tougher" (whatever that really means) to get some rooms at some resorts for some dates. The real question is whether any of us will know enough to recognize the difference, or to even care that we have to stay elsewhere. :confused3

Good discussion-provoking poll, dianeschlicht!

I will admit that I have just come to be familar with the side of me that loves debating what-ifs.... :hyper2:

Good points tjkraz...lots to think about there.

I really think we need to change the name of DVC to SSRVC. Being the meglomaniacs that we are, we should make every effort to take every available space at other DVC resorts and hold them hostage. Much like the Romans we'll force them into submission by making them citizens of the mighty SSRVC empire. Remember my friends...."all roads lead to SSR". ;) :teeth:

Please note that this was an attempt at comedy, no Non SSR DVC members were injured in this skit. :flower3:

Will use our SSR points at SSR during peak periods and try to use them at other DVC locations at non peak. For example, for our December trip we are staying at SSR over last days of Dec and into the new year and then using our BCV points at BCV. We intend to stick with SSR for this ressie and not try and switch at the 7mo window

Cheers

I would beg at their feet, if I thought it would do any good, for them to build an AKL DVC!
Even kiss a little butt if I had to! :rotfl2: :love1: :love1:

Our first trip home is in September, we WILL be staying at SSR and plan to stay there regularly. As far as I can tell, if we venture outside SSR-it will be to either the WLV or Animal Kingdom---the Grand Floridian's Lobby is awesome, but I wouldn't blow the points to stay there.

i plan to use some @ BCV oct. then OKW april SSR we will see 2007

I was one of the people that voted they would use their points to stay at all DVC resorts. If you were asking it now, I would probably change it to MOSTLY stay at SSR. I don't see myself wanted to stay anywhere else for a few years, then I'd probably try out another one, but for the immediate future it is SSR for me!

...................but really only time will tell how this will all shake out and whether all, or some, of the various predictions will come to pass or not. Frankly it's been my experience that "many" predictions don't come to pass. For those of you old enough to remember in the early 70's there was talk of the climate getting colder--gobal freezing. It didn't happend (but it could have I suppose) now they've been talking about global warming for the past 10-15 years. A few years ago eggs were bad for you now the "experts" are saying eggs are ok. Then there's the back and forth talk about how much alcohol is good for your heart and how much isn't.

One thing's for sure where DVC is concerned though, the peopel who post on this board are a passionate bunch of folks that are all in on a pretty good thing. Hurray for US!.
