We are veteran park people but this situation is new to us. My father died in June, my sister came up with this to get my mother out of her house In NE. My sister is taking our mother to her home in Wake Forest, NC then after one week flying our mother to Orlando. When we fly back to Iowa we are flying her back with us then I will drive her back to Lincoln, NE.

When my husband bought the plane ticket he did buy insurance just in case my mother changes her mind about going and yes, she would do that not thinking about the money that others have spent on her behalf.

This trip we are staying at our second home close by to WDW. My son and his family are visiting from Atlanta the week my sister suggested. We had our FP+ booked and dining lunch ADR's booked. Wonderful daughter in law changed ADR's to add my mother and she got some FP+ too just in case.

Now to do that we bought my mother a 5 day park ticket. She was added to our family account. The ticket will not be activated until she arrives. Here is the Question: what happens to that ticket if she decides she will not go on this trip? Can another person use this ticket? I have not looked at the ticket but I know my husband has it. We are AP holders but the daughter in law's family loves Disney and I know they could use it on a trip if my mother backs out.

I already know we are stuck with a fee for any ADR she would miss and her FP+ would not be good if she is not there. I just need to know if only she can use that ticket, I just found the ticket and her name is not on it.

No. two question: Wheel Chairs, my mother can not walk well, she also would not be comfortable driving one of those motorized scooters, *more for other guests I can picture her driving into people, a wheel chair is the option we want. Can they be prearranged through Disney? or for Locals, where is a good place to rent a Wheel Chair for a week? Our house is off of 535 in Windermere zipcode area.

Thank you and the trip for her starts Nov. 8th and the Disney portion is over Nov. 9th-14th., fly back Nov. 17. I am looking forward to being at WDW with my mother, we always wanted to bring them but my father was not interested and then he was diagnosed with dementia and for the past 4 years my mother has been his care taker. She really does need this trip but I also know her and backing out is high possibility. I just hope she goes through with it because it would be good for her.

As long as the ticket has not been used and the finger scan thing done then someone else can use it. You will not get charged for her not showing up at your adr as long as the rest of the party is there. They just charge for a total no show.

As for the wheelchair, we rented one from a local place called Apple Scooters. They delivered it to our offsite condo.

Thank you, I was guessing the ticket could be passed on if she didn't take the trip but with all the new changes I wanted to make sure. Thank you for the tip Apple Scooters, if they deliver they could deliver the wheel chairto our house.

I cant suggest a place to rent a chair because both of my daughters have their own. I will give you a piece of advice for who ever will be pushing your mom - take a nice big chill pill (Xanax, or whiskey work for me lol). IF there is ever any frustration I get from our multitude of WDW trips it comes from trying to navigate our two daughters through the crowded parks. Its like you become invisible. I cant tell you how many people we've "rear ended" because they just stop suddenly in front of you and how many people of literally landed on one of my daughters laps from simply not paying attention. Ive had to really learn to take deep breaths and not let it get to me. Just a friendly piece of advice. Have a great trip!

Wheelchair advice from one who has pushed one (for my husband) and I've been in one (pushed by my husband). We also rented from offsite to have it 24/7. It was not that expensive and well worth everything. I forget the service we used but it was there when we arrived and we left it when we checked out. Once was offsite, once was onsite.

A few tips - your mother will not be at your height level so remember that when describing what you are seeing. Get down to her level if you can. She will be in front of you so normal conversation will be different when you are pushing. You might need to lean down to talk and push. Watch out for others' backpacks and hands. Hands especially because people will just swing those around and not be aware there is someone right at hand level.

Handicapped seating - most queues will handle a wheelchair so you will be in the normal queue. Once inside, pay attention to the Cast Members and follow their instructions for loading and unloading. You will be asked if she can transfer and she can so that will be easier. My husband and I (our wheelchair visits were just one each, both issues resolved) traveled with my dad who was basically confined to his chair in the last years of his life. He never let anyone except my stepmother help him with his chair until.... Disney World. That's the only place he trusted anyone else to help him if he needed it.

The DisAbilities forum has a FAQ Sticky near the top of the page. There is a list of vendors with contact information who will deliver and pick up. If you are staying somewhere offsite and not a hotel, you will likely have to be present for delivery. The sticky also has valuable info regarding wheelchair accessibility for rides, transportation, etc.

I would recommend that you get a pair of padded gloves - the kind bicyclists or weight lifters use- for whoever will be pushing the chair. DH uses them to prevent blisters on the palms of his hands.

ETA, regarding this comment:

As long as some of your party show up for the ADR you won't be penalized. The fee is in case nobody shows up.

I second the gloves, and was going to mention them myself. I have a few issues and cannot stand for long periods of time or walk long distances. Last time I sucked up my pride and alternated between scooters and wheelchairs, renting at the parks. I can't tell you what a difference it made. Hubby (who pushed me) and I both got gloves (me for those times I wheeled myself for a bit)

This time I am renting a wheelchair for the whole trip from BP mobility. They have been great to deal with, answering emails quickly, and friendly on the phone. I pour trip isn't for 3 weeks yet, but they have fantastic customer reviews, and are a WDW recommended site, so I have confidence things should be fine.
