I have sleep apnea and just started using a CPAP machine. Last night was the second night using it. Both nights, a couple of hours after falling asleep with it on, I woke up and felt like there was NO air coming through the hose, almost like I was suffocating, so I took the mask off and fell back to sleep. Has this ever happened to you?? The thing is, since I was barely awake, I don't know for sure if there was air coming through or not. If it happens again tonight I'll try and wake up enough to see whether or not the air is still flowing or not.

Anyone have a similar experience?? Thanks.

P.S. I have a doctor's appt for this coming Tuesday, so I will mention it to him, but thought I'd ask here, to see if anyone else had this happen to them when first using a CPAP.

I have been using a CPAP for about 5 months now and it did take me about a month to get used to it. Yes, I would feel that way at first too. Just hang in there and you'll get used to it eventually!::yes::

My hubby (NC Beast) has to use the CPAP (since 2002). He would take it off when the pressure felt too hard. He had a new sleep study done and they found that he needed a different style of mask. He is doing much better about keeping it on. He does not use his humidifier attachment right now-but he has it for just in case his nose feels too dry. He does better when his weight drops down a bit. I hope things goes better for you.

has a cpap machine and felt the same way the first few nights. Now Chris will not sleep without it! You'll get used to it!

I've used my CPAP machine about ten years now, wouldn't do without it.

I once had the feeling you are talking about. Turned out I needed another sleep test and my machine turned up to a slighly higher pressure.

Since you have just started using your machine, perhaps you need a little time to get used to it. I remember when I first started using my machine I was uncomfortable with it for about a month.

Have the pressure on your machine checked. It is possible that the setting has changed on your machine.

Hang in there, it's all worth it to be able to breathe while you sleep.

This is Cold Iron talking, I didn't want to change the computer setting from Poohstyx.

Thanks everyone! I'll keep using it at night and see if it gets any better. I've heard so many people say they felt so much better after they started using a CPAP machine, I'm hoping to experience the same thing :)
