I have 5 cats, all but the oldest one are rescues. One of my youngest furbabies is a 4 year old orange male tabby. Yoshi is small (about 8 pounds) but eats well, and his fur is shiny and soft. My problem is that he won't usually let anyone near him. He will stand near us and cry for attention, but if anyone tries to pet him he will back away. I can pet him, sometimes without a problem, but he will even get mad at me. There are times when he will sit near me and purr like crazy while I am petting him, but even that only lasts a few minutes. We have had him since he was about 10 weeks old, and he has always been like this. Are some cats just not cuddly? I have always had cats, but none like this guy.
The only thing I notice is that he pulls the fur out of his right side so he has a lighter patch of hair in that spot. It is not a big area, but is almost always there.
Here is a picture of him.

I had a cat that was skittish like your Yoshi. I think that's just the nature of some cats. Some are lover bubbles and can't get enough of their people, some are very standoffish and hide, and then there are the Yoshis - the ones that are pretty sure they want some attention, but once they get it, they think "Nah".:p

One of my cats does this. The vet told me it was similar habit like biting nails. She tends to do it if she is stressed or lonely.

I have a cat like that. He was a foster kitty. He cries constantly but if you approach him he runs the other direction. It got worse when my ds was born. He sleeps behind the clothes in our closet all day and cries 1/2 the night. The weird thing is that about 2x a week we wake and find him curled up in DH's armpit.

Beisdes his weird behavior he is healthy.

I also meant to say that he will sleep under the covers with me during the day, if I nap, or in the morning after it is light out, but NEVER at night.

::yes:: Tycho's like that. It bugged me at first - I rescued him as a "young adult" (between 1 and 2 years old.) Even a year after living in a loving household, he was skittish and would back away when you pet him. But he has no problem lying on top of you if you're trying to do something else! :p I finally accepted that he's just not like Wedge and other family cats - he only wants to be loved on his terms.
