Question about the models

This is mainly a curiousity question, but I think many of you have been following trends and may be able to answer.

When we did our tour at the Open house, they had SSR, AKV, and Aulani for show. They were selling those and BLT but no BLT model. The guide said there had been a BLT model until recently.

Was it just a real estate issue? They wanted to out Aulani in and so BLT lost?

I thought I had read somewhere that BLT was close to selling out at one point, or that it is now again.

If that's the case, then why are they showing BLT models at Doorway to Dreams? I was happy to be able to see the BLT model at home, but I'm just wondering what the rhyme and reason is for what they show and where.

I would say it's about prospective client motivations for purchase - Aulani more than likely wouldn't sell so much at Doorway - for the most part, I would say there are VERY few east coast residents that visit Hawaii every three years, let alone every year.

Disney is all about evoking emotion in everything they do - do folks from NY and Chicago go to WDW every year - yes, I would even say that there are residents from those areas that visit WDW multiple times every year. So Disney wants to PUT them in their element - and say, YES you can stay here EVERY YEAR - let's talk about how that's possible!

Now, folks on the west coast are FAR more likely to go to Hawaii every year - and since there are so few villas at the Grand Californian - Hawaii is another market for Disney to expand the ownership base.

With Bay Lake almost sold out (well, at least that's what DVC keeps saying... I am definitely not going to hold my breath until it actually DOES sell out!)
I can imagine that's why they have the show room at the resort now. They still show the display room daily on the Boardwalk - I can imagine they get a lot of Preview Center visits from folks that stop in to see the BWV display villa.

It's all about inventory - and encouraging people to envision themselves THERE.

I know when we did our tour we were impressed with the AKV show room - BUT we were FAR more impressed when our guide offered to show us an actual Grand Villa at SSR - I would in and thought to myself "WOW - I can definitely see inviting the whole family here for a week - this villa even FEELS like home!" I still think SSR has some of the most impressive Grand Villas - I think they really used a lot of high end looks to make the GV's very very upscale and yet homey. I like the BLT Grand Villas because they are very sleek and sophisticated - but I don't see my family there. BUT, I do love them and see myself there! HAHA

It's all about what sells, and when the time comes - it's about pushing inventory out the door.
