Hi all! First, let me thank all of you wonderful people who post on these boards! You guys and gals are great!!

Now, for my question. My husband's work is sending us for 5 days to WDW and we will be staying at the Contemporary! I am soooo excited. I have been to disney probably 15 times, but I have never stayed onsite. I just hope we don't get too spoiled, lol!

Anyway, my parents are going to meet us down there but they can't afford the contemporary so they are either going to stay at another resort or possibly offsite. Would they be able to visit us at our resort if they stay at another or stay offsite? Would they be able to spend the day at our resort and use the pool with us, or is that a big no-no? Please don't flame me. If it is not allowed, we wouldn't do it. It is just that they would love to be able to spend some time in the pool with their two grandkids (ages 4 and 2). Plus, we could use a couple extra sets of hands since I just found out that I will be about 7 months pregnant with our third at the time:eek: !

So, if someone could fill me in on the guest policy of the resorts I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!
Debbie

You will see many opinions on this question. I would suggest asking when you get to the resort if it is possible. WDW's opinion is the only one that counts. Usually it isn't a problem.

Have a great trip.

they should have no problem coming to visit you at your resort. resort hopping is fun....gives you a chance to take more in

I guess swimming at other resorts is a no-no...and evidently they have been known to check ids sometimes

that said...before I knew this....I did it before with no problems :smooth:

Hello Deb,
Well this will be a very conflicted situation on these boards. Yes your parents are more then welcome to come and visit you at your resort. If they are on property or off. How ever the pool thing is up in the air. I would say go for it. You are a guest there and it is only your parents. Now if it were your sister and her husband and their 4 screaming kids I would say no don't do it. That would not be respectful to the guests of the hotel. But I really don't see the harm in your parents spending time with there grandchildren. Heck the last time I had a family member visit us at our hotel pool (OKW) they bought into the club!!! I think it works out. Have a great time and CONGRATS on the new bundle!!!

Thanks for your responses! I didn't realize this was such an up-in-the-air kind of question. I just figured that disney would have a policy about such a thing but I couldn't find an answer on their website. I will definitely ask when we check in. At least I know that they will be able to come visit us without a problem. I've never been to one of the resorts before so I have no idea what to expect. Thanks again for taking the time to respond :D !

Parking may be an issue. Chances are they are going to be staying longer than the 3 hours allowed. If they are staying on site just have them take the bus to MK then walk (or monorail).

Hmmm.. Hadn't even thought about parking. Thanks for bringing that up. We haven't worked out all the details yet but we may be all driving down in my parents minivan, or they may fly and we will take their minivan. Since we have more stuff, we will probably keep the van at our resort and drop them off at wherever they are staying. Of course, that leaves them without a car then, doesn't it, lol:crazy: ! Oh well, we still have some details to work out. Do they have separate parking for people staying at resorts than people visiting and do they check resort ids for parking? Like, suppose my dad wanted to borrow the van from us (hehe, borrow his own van, lol!) and then wanted to bring it back to us, would he be able to park it back in the resort parking (for more than 3 hours) or would he only be able to park in visitor parking for 3 hours at that point? Oh boy, this is getting confusing, lol! Thanks again for any info you might have!

Debbie

The Disney policy is that guest not staying at that particular hotel are not permitted to use the pool. Saying that there are ways around this. If they are accompanying your children to the pool simply give them one of your resort id cards and they will have no problem. The children will also have resort id cards as well. As long as they have one or two of the cards they will have no problem.

Parking is another challenge. They are welcome to come and visit but due to the resorts proximity to the MK there is a 3 hour time limit. Saying that if they are staying on Disney property they will get a parking pass or they can take the transportation over and then there are no worries.

Hi,

You will LOVE the Contemporary, and the convenience of the monorail with your little kiddies.

Part of the pool hopping issue also depends on the time of year you are going. (hmm... 7 months ... Sept-Oct?) When we stayed at the Contemporary in early June, we sat near some people who pool-hopped over to our pool, and they said they called ahead to the CR desk and was told to "come on over." They also told us, however, that once when it was very hot and they called the front desk for another pool hopping destination, they were told that the pool was too crowded and only resort guests could use the pool at that time. I bet you won't have a problem in the fall.

Congratulations on the little one on the way. Be sure and rest A LOT when you are there!
