question about soarin

I would love to take my mom on soarin but she is afraid of heights. Are there any rows of seats that do not lift up off of the floor, and if there are how do you get those seats? Thanks

there are not... if you didn't lift you would not be able to see the screen. Just request the back row . it the lowest rung of the rows and the least off the ground. I'm afraid of hieghts too and this doesn't bother me. it's just similar to a suspended rollar coaster with out the turns and bumps.

My DH and stepson do not like heights. When we go the mtns, DH will not get anywhere near an overlook and he doesn't ride ski lifts, gondolas, etc.

I really wanted to sit in the first row on Soarin, but because of this I didn't push it. I thought he was good enough to try it, I wasn't going to push my luck. We wound up being in the second row. I know we were still pretty high, but they lift you in the dark, so you don't really realize how high you are.

To make a long story short, DH and DsS loved it!!! They both came back telling everyone it was one of their favorite rides. DH said he enjoyed the scenery so much he didn't think about the height. He also said it helped to think of it as a ride. He knew he was safe and didn't feel like he was going to fall out or anything.

I can tell you that I am the biggest whimp when it comes to rides, I wouldn't dare do a ferris wheel. Never a rollaer coaster!!! As for EE in AK I get sick thinking about it! I was scared on Pirates my 1st time.For pete's sake I even get a little nervous on a merry-go-round (don't laugh!) I was so scared to try Soarin but I felt this was something I had to face...so I did it...twice! I LOVED this ride! 1st time I made sure I was in the front row to board (meaning you'd be the 1st to board the back row of seats that are closest to the ground) so we would be on the lowest level...2nd time I made sure we were in the back row so we would be up the highest. Personally I could not tell the difference. Honestly. It's dark so you can't see how high you are. It just takes longer to get to the top. The scenery is great and you do get some pretty awesome butterflies. If you don't like the flutters in the belly, just close your eyes and it goes away. It's that simple. Really. The ride itself is calm. It's what you look at that causes the thrill. I'd even take my 80 y.o. grandmother on it if she were still alive! It's a ride you really do not want to miss.

This ride is great! There is a vast difference, in my opinion, between the first and last rows. We rode 8 times on our trip last week -- my DD's loved it! -- and after one ride on the 3rd row (the lowest), we always waited on a row one seat for each ride. The ride is more "realistic" from the first row where you don't see the feet of the row ahead of you hanging down over the screen. Just my opinion....

Another wimp here!! Honestly I hate most thrill rides, but I loved Soarin and I am not crazy about heights either, like your mother. I even like the first row the best. I think she will be ok. You may want to ask for the third row the first time, but I'm betting she'll want to ride again and sit in the first row!

I guess I am the odd person here. I too am afraid of heights, but can do coasters and such. I just dont like the feeling of standing on a high balcony, or rides that would carry you straight up high, and while I did like Soarin I did feel a bit uneasy on it. I did feel like I could fall out and therefore used the crotch strap made for kids each time I rode (rode 3 times). The first two times we were on the top row and the last time we were in the middle. I think it was because I actually knew how high up we really were that it bothered me. I couldnt look at the screen until we were all the way up past the clouds and I was holding on for dear life the whole time. We talked with a CM outside of the ride that said you actually have a screen under you and in front of you. When you are lifted up you go out over the screen and up. That freaked me out a bit too. I did enjoy it, but I was a bit nervous the whole ride.

It only rises up a few feet off the ground. My fiance is afraid of heights also and he loved it.

I don't like heights, and I felt uneasy on Soarin'. The first time I got the back row, and it wasn't that bad...the second time around I was in the middle row, and started to panic about halfway through. I wish I knew how high off the ground the ride actually goes, because if it's only a few feet, I think knowing that might make things better. But I actually had a 3rd Fastpass that went unused because I did feel uneasy.

Try it, but try the 3rd row!
We rode on our last trip. DS and DD rode on the 1st row and DH stayed with me on the 3rd. There was an elderly lady in a wheelchair who rode next to me, and I just told myself if she could stand it so could I! I had a death-grip on the handles (sorry lady!), and I was terrified, but by the end I did enjoy it. Frankly, seeing the feet above me was one of the things that made me feel safe in the ride! DH talked through the whole thing to try to keep me calm, which must have thrilled our fellow riders, but oh well!

Yeah, I know *lost in cyberspace*, I kinda screwed that up. But as long as you know what I mean. In any case I liked being on the top row the best. I know what you mean kiddoc about not having to see feet on top of you, I like it better for that reason too. I just didn't seem to be able to tell that we were any higher on the top row then being on the bottom row. It's dark and I couldn't even see the ground when I looked down. I think the top height is about 45 ft. and the bottom is about 20 ft., you just don't know it IMO. And I truely am scared to death to do thrill rides. All I know is I can't wait to ride it again in another month!
