Question about selling an item on ebay, paypal and UPS?

I sold an item on ebay last week and paid for and printed my UPS shipping label from the links provided and through paypal. I had never printed the UPS label before through paypal, normally I ship USPS, but the box was too big for USPS. When I selected the option to pay for and print the label on paypal the price for shipping was removed from my paypal account right then. I totally expected this. There was an option at that time to schedule a pick up but I opted not to. The next morning I decided I didn't want to haul this huge box to the UPS store and went back online, opened a UPS account (the one I did on paypal wouldn't work on the UPS site.) I put in the tracking number, paid $6 and some change for a scheduled pick up. The box was picked up later that day, and by the tracking it has almost arrived to it's final destination, the UPS site says it should arrive Friday. Easy enough, or so I thought.

So tonight I log onto my paypal account to check my balance and it's much higher than I would expect, by about $90! :scared1: I don't see the UPS shipping charge on there anymore and finally find it in my account summary. It shows there was a temporary hold placed on that transaction and that the hold had expired, so paypal cancelled the transaction and credited the money I paid for shipping ($88) back to my paypal account. No more holds or anything are showing currently for this transaction. I logged into my UPS account to see if maybe they charged the card I used to pay the $6 for the home pickup for the entire cost of shipping, and also checked my bank account to see if at least the pick up charge was on there. Nothing. There's no record I ever paid for a scheduled pick up, no record that I paid for shipping anywhere on anything, yet the package is showing it's moving and headed to where it needs to go.

Has this ever happened to anyone? Who should I contact? Paypal? UPS? No one? My main concern is that the buyer receives the item they paid for and so far it seems that's going to happen on Friday.

You say paypal credited you. I would call ups and see what they have to say. But as long as its moving to its destination and you were charged the correct amount it should be ok.

The details are the buyer paid on Thur. Dec. 1st and I immediately went through ebay to paypal to print a shipping label through UPS. The shipping amount was removed from my ebay account that night (Dec. 1st) and I printed my shipping label. I opted to not schedule a home pickup at this time. Per the buyer they didn't want me to ship out until after the weekend. On Monday I scheduled and paid $6 for a home pickup on Tue. (Dec. 6th) of the item directly through the UPS site, not paypal. The item was picked up Tue and is moving along as it should to its destination.

What Paypal is showing is....

December 1st Authorization to UPS in the amount of $88 (the shipping cost) in the status area it says this authorization is "expired."

December 1st Temporary hold. The $88 for shipping is still not available in my paypal account. The status area is now showing "placed."

December 6th Transaction Cancelled. The $88 is now available in my paypal account. The status area is showing "removed."

I have no clue what to do? Obviously I'm going to leave the money in there just in case UPS bills me in the next week or so. I guess the only thing to do is wait and make sure the item actually arrives to its destination. :confused3

Just wanted to bump this up in case someone had some suggestions? The package in question was delivered this morning to the buyer. They have left positive feedback so I'm sure they did receive it. The money I paid UPS is still available in my paypal account. I called paypal yesterday and they said to contact UPS. As far as paypal is concerned UPS did not take the money in time and now the authorization has expired. I called UPS and I'm not sure what or where the conversation went but we were all confused by the end of it, and their answer was they didn't know, they were showing paid in full for all services of shipping this item. Should I just count this as a holiday blessing? I don't want to cheat anyone out of their money, and I sure don't want to spend what's available in paypal and then UPS come back next week and take their money. I'm so confused. :confused3
