Question about scrapbooking and digital pics

For all you professional scrapbookers out there...

Do you take regular pics or digital pics? If digital, how does it cost a fortune to print them for your scrapbook?

After reading the thread about "To take or not to take a video camera," I am considering buying a digital video that will take still shots. Is this feasible for scrapbooking?

I don't like the quality of stills from my video camera, but I am a scrapbooker with a normal digital camera. I took 900 photos at Disney this month. I think digital is much cheaper than film - processing & film for 900 shots would be extortionate - but with digital I will go though and pick out the best 250ish and get those printed - with film you have to get them all printed. I will also get some printed larger for feature photos in my albums

I live in the UK and can get 50 prints for £5 - I am sure if you shop around you can find good prices in the states, I know snapfish are 19cents each with 10 free. Shutterfly give 15 free then 22 cents, you can probably shop around and get quite a few printed free.

I take both still and digital still pictures...I like both...with my digital I can look at the pictures and delete them and then I have photoshop on my computer that allows me to print them all you have to pay is the price of photoshop and then for the printer paper. Good Luck

Scrapbooker here ... LOVE digital ... I snap away but only print the photos I need for each layout ... choosing the best of the best.

I love being able to take a ton of pictures but only pay for what I want to print off for my scrapbook. I get mine printed at my local Walmart because they have a new lab and do the best job in town. I have had photos printed at CVS, Target and Walgreens using their free coupons that they have out every so often. I don't print photos at home because I haven't been pleased with the quality so far.

I'm an avid scrapbooker and also use a digital camera for my pictures. I'll echo what everyone else has said. I love being able to snap away and not worry about the cost of film. I then only print the best pictures. I have been using snapfish - http://www.snapfish.com for my developing. I pay like $90 and that gets me 600 4x6 prints which is pretty decent.

I am a Creative Memories consultant and avid scrapper.... I use my digital camera all the time. What I tend to do is download them to Ofoto.com or dotphoto.com (whichever one has the better sale price at the time) I find that with a 2 yr old and a 4 yr old, it's more economical for me to do it this way and delete the pics I don't want rather than use a whole 24 exposure roll and end up with only 4 or 5 good pics once they're developed. I usually get my pics within 2-4 days of downloading them to the site. The quality is sometimes even better than I get with my 35mm and my digital camera is only a 2.2 megapixel!!! GL!

Now I have another question...
I'm a novice at digital photography...how do you "store" all those pics during one long vacation? Cameras only hold so many pics, right? Do you download them while on vacation or is there some easy way to do this? My gosh....one of you took 600 pics!? I would LOVE to take that many pictures...especially with a digital and knowing that they came out ok. Anyway, can someone advise me on this?

Kanga1= you get memory cards for your camera. Digital cameras are categorized by megapixels. The higher the megapixel, the crisper the pic and you're able to make larger pics w/o the grain the higher up you go. The downfall with the higher megapixel is that you get fewer pics per memory card. For instance, on a certain memory card, a 6.1 megapixel camera will get 80 pics and a 4.0 will get 120. (I'm shopping around right now to upgrade my 2.2 Kodak megapixel that does take awesome photos.) You just buy as many memory cards that you need-and I think if I'm not mistaken, you can have them print them up for you at Disney (but I'd imagine you'd pay a fortune). I'm going down with a few memory cards equalling about 400 pics.... GL!

I just got back from a 2 week vacatoin and I took over 900 photos - many of them bad..... but some fabulous ones.

I have 2 cards, a 265 meg and a 125 meg - the big one holds nearly 300 photos and the smaller one around 160.

When either one got full, I took it too Walmart or CVS ( or Walgreens does it too) and had it copied to CD - this cost about $4 and took about an hour (at Walmart, CVS was really fast, 15 minutes maybe?)
I had to do this twice, and came home with 2 cds and 2 full memory cards.

We take our laptop with us and download the images every night. I'm a scrapbooker too, so I just keep snapping away in hopes of getting one or two good shots of a fast moving 2 year old.

I am an avid scrapbooker ( to put it mildly) and this year we took a vacation to Washington and Oregon. We ended up with roughly 800 photo's with our digital and another 200 with our 35mm. This is what we found.
We had additional memory cards and used them up most everyday and then at night in the hotel we would put them onto the laptop and clear the cards for another day. It was easy and the best way. Plus, everynight before bed we would have our own little mini movie with the kids and talk about our day and then rid the file of the pics we didn't need.

Using the other camera as well, gave me the opportunity to play with different shots--something I miss with the digital.
I would highly recommend bringing a lap top with a digital but then again it all depends on how long you are goin for--We were away for two weeks and I knew we would need to get rid of the pictures somehow.
I print my own photos on my computer because I like to use Adobe to crop and change tint.

I am in to Scrapbooking real heavy also, I take my Pics on the Digital, Download on the Puter, sit and make copies and Scrapebook. It is so much easier, it may cost a little more, but well worth it. nana2tots
