Question about RV Parking

Does anyone know if Fort Wilderness allows overnight RV parking in thier overflow lot. Here is my problem. We are going in January and spending one night at the nick hotel then we are checking into FW for a week. Well I just found out from the Nick hotel they do not allow overnight RV parking in thier lot because of limited parking spaces. I was thinking of leaving the RV in FW overflow parking lot for the night and returning the next am for check-in. Has anyone done this. Or does anyone know where we might be able to store the RV for the night I don't mind paying a fee if we have to. If not I might have to cancell the Nick hotel reservation, what a shame!

Rather than get opinions, you should call FW directly and ask. You should be aware that there is limited parking in the lots, that this parking is mainly for early check ins whose site is not ready yet and is temporary or extra vehicles for campers who are only allowed one vehicle on their site. The lot is patrolled and I have been told that "unauthorized" parked vehicles will be towed because of the limited space. I have parked an extra vehicle there for the length of our stay, but that vehicle had a campground registration on the dash board. I'm sure there will be people who will tell you to go ahead, but I would still ask FW - it's not worth dealing with a towed vehicle while on vacation to me.

I seem to remember that there are certain WDW resorts that have room for rv parking, but I can't remember which ones. And I'm not sure how that would work if you are not staying at a disney hotel.

I'm curious though, because we are considering doing the same thing - FW with our pop up and then (or before) one night at the Nick hotel. I don't know if I would have even thought to ask if there was room for a popup in the parking lot!

Can you see where this would have the potential to get out of hand? It may start with just one or two, but imagine if everyone staying off site wanted to leave their RV in the lot "just for a day or two." Once again, I would refer people directly to FW, and don't be upset if they say no.

Or park it at wal-mart.
The wal-mart on the vineland or vineyard or whatever it's called, 535 or the 536... the one running north and south just to east of disney, connecting i-4 to 192. It's right down the way (about 5 minutes) from the nick hotel, allows for overnight RV parking. My sister that works for wal-mart told me that you can park over night in thier parking lot, including RV parking. In cooper city (where she works) has strict rules about RV parking at your home, so people that are traveling to visit family or friends will park thier RV in thier parking lot during thier stay, but now the city is getting on thier backs about it.
In any case, the wal-mart there allows it, but according to some people, the wal-mart on 192 is off limit for overnight parking. And to the other guy, a pop-up will probably only take up two parking spots including your vehicle. As for an RV, it's take up two on it's own, plus one more if you're pulling a car. Or if you end up parking sideways, easily like 5 spaces or more. Plus if you park there, it'll give you an opprotunity to go pick up some quick essentials for your camping trip so you don't have to leave camp again.

Thank you for all of your replies, I wanted to give you all an update. Nick Hotel e-mailed me back and said that Camping World in Kissimmee would allow it, but when I called they do not allow overnight parking.

I am glad to hear from Sandra that Walmart allows it, I may have to explore that option, also I can always use essentials at WallyWorld so it would be convient.

Ftwildernessguy, I had been thinking about calling Ft.Wilderness but wanted to see if anyone had the answer first. I could see how it would get out of hand it had been just a thought to my situation.

Do a lot of people stay at FW for a week and then offsite one night? We're only considering it because DS has been bugging me about the Nick hotel. I can't imagine that it would really be worth the trouble for most people.

You're right - most people don't and it wouldn't in general be worthwhile, however what FW has been experiencing lately is an increasing number of guests who will show up at FW a day or two early and camp out in the parking lot, apparently figuring a couple days at FW lot is better than a couple days somewhere else. This has resulted, I have been told, in increasing patrols in the overflow lot looking for unregistered vehicles and, believe it or not, resulted in towing these vehicles.
